Per circa cinque anni, tra il 1992 e il 1997, la musica jungle fu coinvolta in un continuo processo di trasformazione. Iniziò come una mutazione del rave, fatta di sonorità techno, dancehall, dub, rave, house, hip-hop, electro. Al suo interno però aveva qualcosa che fece nascere un suono senza precedenti, futuristico, sperimentale ma anche adatto ai dancefloor. ‘Sounds Of The West: Bristol Jungle’ vi conduce in un viaggio attraverso la scena jungle di Bristol del 1996, città culla della musica inglese (pensate all’esplosione del trip hop) e il film riflette proprio questa vitalità. Oltre a documentare l’influenza di label e club come Ruffneck Ting e Full Cycle, troverete mezz’ora di interviste e clip con DJ Storm, Dj Krust, MC Jakes, Roni Size, Flynn and Flora, Ray Mighty, MC Dynamite, Mark Morrison e molti altri. For about five years, between 1992 and 1997, jungle music was involved in a process of ceaseless reinvention, dismantling and reassembling itself. It began as a mutation of rave, configured from elements of techno, dancehall, dub, rave, house, hip-hop and electro, but the volatile composite made for a sound that was completely unprecedented: futuristic and experimental, yet designed for the dancefloor. ‘Sounds Of The West: Bristol Jungle’ takes you through the Bristol jungle scene of 1996. The city was a hotbed for UK music (think about the trip hop explosion), this film reflects this vitality. It documents the work of influential labels and club nights such as Ruffneck Ting and Full Cycle, and it contains an half an hour of interviews and clips from DJ Storm, Dj Krust, MC Jakes, Roni Size, Flynn and Flora, Ray Mighty, MC Dynamite, Mark Morrison and many more.
