@junetwilight, I chose 22: “I wouldn’t change a thing about you.”

If someone were to ask Drummer or Jim about each other, they would each say that they have little in common, and on the surface, that would appear to be true. Jim has a reputation for championing causes and being more than a little self-righteous, whereas Drummer’s name has never been mentioned in the same sentence as ‘righteous’ unless the sentence also includes the word ‘hardass.’

Naomi has a different understanding, one born of years of trust. Her lovers are more similar than they realise, and certainly more similar than either of them would ever want to acknowledge. She knows better than to point this out to them. The fact that they are even willing to be around each other is something Naomi will not take for granted, and she isn’t going to upset the delicate balance.

It’s taken over a year for Naomi to convince Drummer to join her and Jim for the occasional drink while the Roci is docked. Drummer was predictably grumpy about the whole idea, but she trailed after Naomi the first time and now they’re at a stage where she will even stop scowling through the whole thing.

Right now, Drummer is perched on the edge of the couch to one side of her, Jim on the other. Jim brought them all beers and Drummer is sipping hers, the neon lights of the bar throwing her high cheekbones into sharp relief.

“Do you want to do something else tonight?” Jim suggests. “Maybe we could watch a movie?”

Drummer looks at him blankly. “A movie.”

Jim’s voice goes up an octave in the light of Drummer’s stare. Drummer tends to have that effect on people. “I thought it might be fun.”

Drummer narrows her eyes and Naomi places a hand on her knee. Drummer likes to play up the emotionless badass role a lot of the time, but Naomi understands her well enough to know how deep her emotions truly run. She wishes Drummer would show that side of herself to Jim one day, but right now, Naomi will settle for Drummer not being a dick. “A movie sounds nice,” Naomi says, shooting Drummer a warning look.

Drummer sighs. “Fine. There’s a new horror vid out from Ceres.”

“A horror vid?” Jim’s Adam’s apple bobs and he casts a sideways glance at Naomi. No doubt he is wondering what Drummer might find horrifying.

Drummer’s face breaks into a nasty grin. “Scared, inya?”

I already answered 7 so I’ll move right on to 11!

11. Biggest squee moments of the year 

I miss the word ‘squee,’ it was so useful.

I had several squee moments:

- Seeing Black Panther.

- Getting sucked into The Expanse.

- Seeing the behind the scenes stuff for Season 4 across Twitter.
