So very grateful for people like @atalidebeaulieu in my life! She managed to get us black Sapote, purple star apple and a ton of June Plums to add to our nursery! I haven’t had a June Plum since I was maybe 12 years old and I simply couldn’t contain my excitement. And yes, in case you’re wondering, I ate through all of them to harvest seeds, yum! Spondias dulcis is most commonly used as a food source. In West Java, its young leaves are used as seasoning for pepes. In Costa Rica, the more mature leaves are also eaten as a salad green though they are tart. However, it is most commonly used for its fruit. The June Plum (Spondias dulcis) fruit may be eaten raw; the flesh is crunchy and a little sour. The fruit is best when fully colored, but still somewhat crunchy. At this stage, it has a pineapple-mango flavor. The flesh is golden in color, very juicy, vaguely sweet, but with a hint of tart acidity. #growninhaiti #juneplum #Spondiasdulcis #blacksapote #sugarapple #seedshare #seedharvest #seed #plantedfromseed #variety #agroforestry #nursery #reforestation #preservation #fruit #exoticfruit #tropicalfruit #tropical #exotic #haiti #ayiti #diversity #foodsecurity #sharingiscaring #exoticfruittrees #foodforest #permaculture #germination #plantsomething https://www.instagram.com/p/BrSk-asji0a/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18nxbybbxwyyd
