Mayor de Blasio signed a bill into law Thursday that will require city jails to let inmates wear their own clothes to court appearances, and give them weather-appropriate civilian clothing to wear when they’re released.

As the Daily News reported, the city has been releasing people onto the streets in freezing temperatures without winter coats, wearing just their thin jail-issued uniforms.

Under the legislation, which passed earlier this month, officials will be barred from bringing prisoners to court appearances in their jail jumpsuits, and the Department of Correction will have to provide weather-appropriate clothes when a defendant is set free from a court appearance, such as when they make bail or have their charges dismissed.

The law takes effect in 120 days.

De Blasio also signed 28 other bills Thursday, including one that will slap limits on gifts to political nonprofit groups like his now-defunct Campaign for One New York, which is now being investigated for possible pay-to-play with donors. Donors who have business with the city will be able to give no more than $400 to such groups.

Another newly signed law will impose tougher requirements before the city can lift deed restrictions, like the one lifted from former Lower East Side nursing home Rivington House which sparked another scandal.
