Who is the 🧙‍♀️ behind the diamond curtain? 💎 I am @juleskim and here’s my story as a storyteller and jewelry creative... 🐍 ⭕️ OUROBOROS 2.0⭕️ 🐍 The Ouroboros symbol expresses the unity of all things, material and spiritual, which never disappear but perpetually change form in an eternal cycle of destruction and re-creation. This ancient alchemical truth supports the motion needed to bring ideas to the surface. There are two pivotal aspects to generating sales and interest: authenticity and community. Without these two pillars an artist’s work will not see the light of day and the Ouroboros cycle stops dead. I like to talk about my ideas and practice their values through community conversations and activations. I created an entire collection through exploration of this ancient alchemical truth. The Cloud Ring series became an instant classic as the single line silhouette slithers around fingers and floats above the wearers’ hand. Filling this negative space with ideas and allusions to femininity, earthly/oceanic gems and colors help define each piece’s uniqueness. A full circle design concept has led to matching its fabrication process, too. Ouroboros inspires not just the jewelry but also the business around Bijules as it sheds skin to become a new breathing entity as an on-demand fine jewelry brand. Everything is custom. After twenty years of racing city life, I am filling myself with big gulps of nature tonic. Never has my artist brain been exposed to this prolonged unbridled beauty and I am taken by it’s current and motion. The calming seduction of nature influences me to get out and live authentically at my own pace. Nothing is urgent unless it threatens my existence. Nothing matters unless it matters to me first. What matters to me now, is my compassion for the ultimate source and how I plan to give back and give thanks for this privilege to create. Who is the 🧙‍♀️ behind the diamond curtain? 💎 I am @juleskim and here’s my story as a storyteller and jewelry creative... 💎💎HISTORY IS INDELIBLE 💎💎If I were to deny my past, then I’d be doomed to repeat it. That is why I choose to create with defiance and self respect while forging a clear path for posterity and incoming generations of talent and educated consumer. The barrier to entry as an independent Asian female meant I had to settle my debt with myself as a creator and build up a resistance to disbelief and intolerance. My designs are subtly confrontational, if not dead pan riotous, in order to confront a perpetual lack of diversity in the jewelry world and its products. Boooooring. Yawn. Like Marilyn Monroe’s beauty mark, her body acceptance made her image indelible and ubiquitous, so much so that Andy Warhol further imbued pop culture with a silkscreen of her mole. Fast forward to today when beauty marks and freckles are tattooed cosmetically. My indelible mark on pop culture comes in the form of a general jewelry revolution. The fine line between "influence" and "rip off" is crowded by myopic businesses and lazy opportunists that force a saturated market. As a Bijules supporter, you are equipped with information that acknowledges me as a jewelry trend's originator. Ideas are no longer original as feverish consumerism fuels desperation and in this haste, values are erased and creative recognition is expunged. I get philosophical with it. Being thoughtful and analytical is my only defense as I gear up to pivot my business towards more likeminded people who are affected by injustice and who are resolute in doing the right thing for society, our economy and Mother Earth. After the pandemic hit, after the insurrection, after a renewed uprising against police violence, through one climate shock after another, it's become even more clear that we can't just go back to the ways things were—we must build back better and stronger than ever before. We can't—and won't—go back to a norm of crumbling infrastructure, tremendous unemployment, sustained racial and wealth inequalities, and ecological destruction. I am dreaming of a simple blue calm; the cooling tone of equity and inclusion through my work with Bijules. I refuse to advance myself and my community through the muck of the past just to watch it repeated yet again.
