Alix had waken up early to go to the bathroom, and maybe try and put thumb tacks on Marinette's shoes, when she heard her roommate making noises. It sounded like... sobbing? That couldn't be right. Marinette was an ice cold creature of darkness in the body of a teenage girl. She dueled with ghosts, burned butterflies to a crisp! Yet as Alix returned to the bedroom, there she was, her pale cheeks wet with tears.
"Oh, Alix. I had the worst dream!" Marinette whimpered, hiccuping and shivering.
"Isn't that a good thing?" Alix asked, since nightmares were usually joyful topics of discussion around the kitchen table for the six of them.
"No! It was terrible." Marinette insisted, as Alix came in to hold her close, giving the usually gloomy girl some comfort.
"I was smiling all the time. I was wearing pink, Alix. pink!" she hissed, almost gagging as she said the last word.
"Nathaniel and I were enemies! The very thought breaks my cold blacken heart"
"Ok, now I see why that's a nightmare. I can't think of a world where our family's just... split apart like that." Alix admitted, not knowing what to do aside from patting her on the back.
"What's worst of all, I was just like that bitchy primadonna daughter of our moronic mayor. And in the dream, Chloe was one of the good guys. If I could do dream magic, I'd swap her for the real one in an instant." Marinette said, her eyes finally beginning to dry up.
"Well, Juleka was talking about seeing different universes when she went to sleep. I thought she was bein' a little kooky, but maybe she was on to something." Alix replied.
"Perhaps... but I just want to forget about the whole thing."
"I got an idea, why don't we paint the flowers in Miss Bustier's garden black? That oughta cheer you up."
Marinette returned to her usual stone-face expression and monotonous voice. "Tell anyone what happened and I'm setting your hat on fire."
Alix just grinned. There was the Marinette she knew and loved.
Here we have a little Artist Family scene I came up with, seeing Marinette have a bad dream about being in the world of Deconstructed AU. Booksy, if you want to put this in your Artist Family fic on AO3, you totally can, just give me credit of course. Guys, please reblog and reply and tell me what you think. @booksrbetterthanpeople @msweebyness @nerdy-chocomallow
