“You know what, Kate?! I’ve had it!” Josh yells, slamming his fists on the table in frustration, “I’m sick of being the ‘other guy’ in your life!”
Kate jolted backwards, startled by his sudden outburst. She had always doubted her feelings for Josh but here he was, confessing to her on how tired he is from being her toy.
“I-I’m sorry…” was all she could tell him.
“Sorry?!” Josh scoffs, “If you’re really sorry then you wouldn’t have used me!”
“I did what I had to, okay?!” Kate cried, “Luke was going to—”
“Was going to what? Murder you? For crying out loud, Kate, grow up!” he interjects angrily.
He was so fed up with her. He was tired of being the guy she’s cheating with.
He was nothing but a toy to her.
Yet, he loved her. He loved her wholeheartedly and he loved everything about her.
But why can’t she see that?
Why did it always have to be someone else when he was the one who’s always there for her?
He didn’t realize that Kate slowly walked over to him as she took his hand in hers.
“Josh, believe it or not; but I do love you,” she spoke to him, “I love you, but every time I’ve tried to tell you, I got scared, okay? Because I thought you’d never feel the same way…”
Josh’s anger at her slowly melted away.
It was instead replaced with guilt.
If only she knew that they couldn’t be together, no matter how much they wanted it.
Because one has to kill the other in the end.
But nevertheless, he looked back at her then said, “I love you too, Kate...Damnit, I've messed up.”
She placed a hand on his cheek, "You didn't. I did. I should've told you sooner."
He leaned in to kiss her forehead quickly then he said, "I don't deserve you, Kate. You might as well be with him."
"But what if I don't want to?"
He smiled softly as he replied, "Then I guess I'll have you."
