not even in a hater way, they definitely bathed as much as we did, but the guys liked to use heavy pomade and lots of cologne, both of which weren’t as common in the local US subculture. Their cologne was also pretty heavy on the oud, leather, and spices, which meant that it Announced Itself on a humid spring day, in a way it probably wouldn’t in a desert. to the extant that local students wore fragrance it was your citrusy fresh stuff, aquatics, and piney smells, which fly under the radar a bit more.

So yeah, I’d say “distinctive” is the right word. Not a bad body odor smell, just a lineup of grooming products that really stood out in a big way. I’m pretty nose blind, so it’s possible other people found the cologne a bit too pungent, but I didn’t mind it. It was just funny how you could kinda tell the Jordanians were sitting behind you before they even started talking.
