I would say that my selfship lore is pretty canon-compliant. Obviously, I don't exist in "Phantom Blood" by default, but you get what I'm saying, lol.

Nothing about my selfship is particularly canon breaking (JoJo and Erina still end up together because I think they're so sweet and so right for each other), but obviously polyships would *not* be socially acceptable in Victorian England. But heck, screw realism! I mean, we are talking about a series in which vampires exist and people possess all sorts of supernatural abilities... Let Jonathan have two loving wives! Let him be doubly cherished and taken care of! He definitely deserves it.

6. What's a piece of canon lore you refuse to change about your f/o, even for the sake of your selfship?

I generally attempt to keep canon lore intact, so pretty much everything, but mainly:

Jonathan dying. It truly pains me every time I read/watch those scenes. I do have a little Everyone Lives AU, but in the main timeline, JoJo unfortunately still dies. Even though it would make things so much happier... I can't change the ending. It doesn't feel right to change major events like that, especially given how strong fate is in this series. Still, it has to be said: JoJo deserved to live a long life, to see his children and grandchildren grow up, to be given his flowers while he still breathed... JoJo deserved so much better. I wish I could just wrap my arms around him and protect him from everything, just like how he tried so hard to protect everyone else... Excuse me while I go cry over what could have been.

Additionally, JoJo marrying Erina is another thing I refuse to change. I truly love that ship with all my heart. You know that feeling you get when you're happy at someone else's success/happiness? That's how I feel whenever I see anything Jonaeri. It fills my soul with joy to see JoJo being loved with all the tenderness he deserves, to see him happy and at peace. And, of course, I want the same for Erina! I love her very much in a platonic, sisterly way. Apparently, there is a word for that feeling of joy derived from the happiness of others: freudenfreude, in regards to the general feeling. See also: compersion, specifically regarding Jonaeri and I.

12. What's an important event in your f/o's canon that would help others understand them better?

I feel like most of Jonathan's childhood could apply here, but there is one scene in particular that I wanna yap about. It's when JoJo is upset at how drastically his life has changed ever since Dio arrived. He says something along the lines of "Dio and I are always being compared to each other. It feels like as soon as I make even the smallest mistake or slip up, I get punished." While Jonathan does genuinely desire to become "a true gentleman," said wish also clearly stems from JoJo's desire to be seen as "good enough" by his father and by the world as a whole. To wear a mask that society could praise him for, a mask that he could fall back on whenever he needed to, is something that I imagine brought Jonathan a lot of bittersweet comfort. After all, if JoJo was perfect, no one could hurt him anymore. No one could exclude him. No one could look at him and see the scared little boy who ached for love and belonging, who felt so very alone even within his own family. Other people would only see a noble soul; someone whom they could admire and who was capable of bringing honor to the Joestar name.

Another key scene in understanding Jonathan is during the ending of the first volume of "Phantom Blood" wherein he corners Dio with solid proof that Dio had been trying to murder George I. Despite this utter betrayal, despite the harrowing pain Dio put him through both emotionally and physically, Jonathan still saw Dio as his brother. JoJo still felt genuinely distraught about having to send him to prison. Despite having ample reasons not to, Jonathan still loved Dio. He loved his father. He loved Speedwagon. He loved Erina. He loved and he loved and he loved.

It takes an incredible amount of mental and emotional strength to be as kind and loving as Jonathan was, and I feel like people tend to overlook that.

16. FREE REIGN - Infodump about your f/o's lore, your selfship lore, or literally anything related!!

I have a couple of headcanons for JoJo that I thought would be fun to share. (⁠✿⁠^⁠‿⁠^⁠)

I picture Jonathan as bi. I can't imagine JoJo rejecting the possibility of love/being loved just because someone was the "wrong" gender. He's always been very earnest in his affection for people, in his deep caring and unwavering loyalty/support, so I imagine that if he hadn't lived in the 1880s/was more aware of his bi-ness in the original timeline, he would have been as equally likely to have ended up with Speedwagon or Erina. Personally, I think Jonaeriwagon is peak and I will die on that hill.

Jumping off the last point: in a Modern AU, I just feel it in my bones that Jonathan would 100% be one of those people at Pride events wearing those "Free Hugs" shirts.

Jonathan is probably a very warm sleeper and ends up tossing blankets off in his sleep. That man is 100% a natural heater, especially after he learned Hamon, which is literally the energy of the sun. While this would be a boon during the winter months, it would make it almost unbearable to snuggle during the summertime.

Jonathan would be a wonderful father to George II and any other children he would've had. I picture him as a very proper, somewhat strict father, but just as equally empathetic and tender. Like, he'd have high hopes for his family and try to shape his kids into respectable folk, but he would never be unreasonable, cruel, or push them to the point of tears. He would never want them to fear disappointing him. Given his own childhood, JoJo would make a conscious effort make sure his children all felt equal to each other. He'd definitely set aside time for each of them throughout the day/week/whatever. Any child born to JoJo and Erina would be incredibly loved and lucky.

I think Jonathan would find it difficult to ever truly relax. I feel like a part of him would always be self-conscious/hyperaware about how he appears, both in appearance and in mannerisms, even if it was just Erina and/or me.

This one is practically canon, but I imagine JoJo has a weakness for sweets, especially chocolate.
