Lea's also friends with Becca Tobin, who's also problematic. She dressed in a Native appropriation Halloween costume and kept deleting comments calling her out for it being offensive, and from what I've heard, her podcast can be pretty offensive (idk, I don't listen to it). From a non Glee perspective, she's friends with Emma Roberts, who beat up her boyfriend and also has a reputation for being bitchy. The only other friend I know of is Jon Groff, who I admit I don't know much about, but (pt1)
But Jon at the very least is okay with this behavior since they've been such good friends for so long, which makes my opinion of him go down. I was always a bit suspicious of Lea, she always came off as having an ego, but I didnt' say anything because I didn't know her and I could be wrong. (I also found her annoying, lol) Plus there was the fact that she was a good singer and actress and couldn't get or hold a job after glee (2/2)
Well, problematic people do tend to bond, so Lea’s friendships with people who are... let’s just say, challenging, really isn’t a surprise. As for Jon... I haven’t heard anything negative about his conduct and speaking as someone who had seriously difficult friends over the years, you tend to overlook your best friends’ worst qualities and might be blind to how others are seeing them. Or at least willing to overlook behaviors that don’t directly affect him or his relationship with her.
I knew that Ryan Murphy wrote the character of Rachel specifically to feature Lea so I assumed that Rachel was a highly exaggerated representation of some of Lea’s history and personality. It’s pretty obvious that it wasn’t all that far off which is really unfortunate. And he bears a lot of responsibility for letting Lea get away with behavior like that on the set. No one deserves to be disrespected, regardless of how small their role might be or what their job is on the show. Lea deserves all of the flack that’s being aimed her way, but Murphy shoudl answer to how he fostered a climate that allowed that kind of bullying and unhealthy competition among the cast.
