Derrick Hussey: The Robert H. Barlow Centennial at the John Hay Library was a superb event. Paul LaFarge held us rapt with a 45-minute slideshow and biographical overview, sincerely related with fascinating asides. We were so transfixed an audible gasp rose from the audience when Barlow's suicide note was read (in its English translation, of course, as original written in Mayan). The Hay had generously mounted a remarkable exhibit, filling four display cases with unique Barloviana, including one of RHB's paintings, letters, manuscripts, and publications. The presentation was followed by a brief q&a period. The event concluded with snacks & coffee, and more discussion, in the lobby.
