I sincerely hope this isnât stirring up too much drama or going too fandomy, but-
I think the way a lot of the Terror fandom acts about Fitzjamesâs DNA identification and his jawbone is absolutely vile. That was a real, genuine human being and those are his very real remains. His jawbone isnât a fandomy image for people to start using in fanart and as part of the show, and itâs awful that the fandom canât seem to differentiate between a very fictionalized portrayal of the man and who he really was. Human remains deserve respect and are not your fandom accessories.
On that note, itâs just as awful that the fandom seemed to have almost been CELEBRATING the discovery and I saw more than one post along the lines of âyay I canât believe they actually ate him!â and behaving as though that was a GOOD thing. It was tragic and horrific and you can celebrate finally knowing what happened to him without celebrating the actual, awful circumstances he was in.
If you guys are going to be weird and obsessive about Fitzjamesâs remains, why arenât you being weird and obsessive about John Gregory, who was DNA identified first? Why not about the supposed remains of Goodsir and Irving that have been repatriated? Itâs because Fitzjames was a main character in the show and yall canât tell the difference between a real person and a fictional character.
