News: On May 22, 2015, Ireland held a historic constitutional referendum on same-sex marriage. Voters approved the Thirty-fourth Amendment to the Constitution of Ireland, permitting two persons to marry regardless of their sex, by a margin of 62% to 38%. This landmark decision made Ireland the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage through a popular vote.
