Alejandro Jodorowsky @alejandro.jodorowsky turns 93 today. Happy birthday, Maestro. Jodorowsky is known as a writer of graphic stories, mainly in a world he created that has been called the “Jodoverse,” which includes The Incal (art by Moebius) and Metabarons (art by Gimenez). His primary occupation is that of filmmaker whose major works are “El Topo” (1970) and “The Holy Mountain” (1973). These days, the film for which he’s best known is one he didn’t direct about a movie he didn’t make: the documentary “Jodorowsky’s Dune.” This is a poster (swipe for details) by artist Hugo Emmanuel Figueroa @hugoemmanuelfigueroa for that movie. The poster, like the story the documentary tells, is chock full of weirdness we can’t even begin to go into here. Just enjoy it. . #jodorowsky #alejandrojodorowsky #jodoverse #incal #dune #frankherbert #hugoemmanuelfigueroa #movieposter #frankherbert https://www.instagram.com/p/CaFg7C7uyab/?utm_medium=tumblr
1980 - 2014: The Incal. Comic series from the mind of Alejandro Jodorowski.
John Difool, a low-class detective in a degenerate dystopian world, finds his life turned upside down when he discovers an ancient, mystical artifact called "The Incal." Difool's adventures will bring him into conflict with the galaxy's greatest warrior, the Metabaron, and will pit him against the awesome powers of the Technopope. These encounters and many more make up a tale of comic and cosmic proportions that has Difool fighting for not only his very survival, but also the survival of the entire universe.
The Incal (1980-1988); Before the Incal (1988–1995); After the Incal (2000); Final Incal (2008–2014)
Taika Waititi has signed on to co-write and direct a film adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Mœbius’ graphic novel, The Incal.
Alejandro Jodorowsky, Deconstructing the Jodoverse, illustrated by Jean Giraud, Juan Gimenez, Zoran Janjetov and Travis Charest, with text by Christophe Quillien and Jean Annestay (Humanoids Publishing, October 26, 2021).
“This deluxe box set (two oversized books in one deluxe slipcase box) will be limited at 1,500 numbered copies. This encyclopedic reference book is packed with fascinating insights from the creators, Jodorowsky and Mœbius, alongside revealing text and rare and unseen preliminary illustrations. The book will also contain the original 56 pages drawn by Mœbius of the unfinished first version of the sequel story (After The Incal). Book 2 will feature the second reference guide to the Jodoverse, Deconstructing the Metabarons, focused on unveiling the secrets of the universe's fiercest warrior clan: the Metabarons. Book 2 will also include Weapons of the Metabaron, the seminal series' spin-off story recounting how the mightiest warrior in the universe built his arsenal of war and featuring comics star Travis Charest's interpretation of The Metabarons' mythology.”
