omg hello lovely anon. i would Love to tell you how the olympics au works. here’s the caption i wrote when i posted the art on insta:

taking home a silver medal and a bronze medal in skateboarding respectively. the only person to beat them and win gold is ainosuke shindo, who is a fellow japanese citizen skating for the united states. the win earns kaoru and kojiro a monumental wave of pride and affection from japan, and as they navigate their new lives as internationally-recognized skateboarders, ainosuke shindo (who insists that they call him “adam”) reaches out and asks to spend more time with them. kaoru and kojiro get swept up into his world of high-stakes illegal skating, and by the time they realize they’re in over their heads, it’s too late. kaoru is severely injured, and his ties to skateboarding are cut. the fallout is immense. adam retreats to the united states and kojiro, overcome with guilt, flees japan entirely.

four years later, the olympics rolls around again. kojiro has been working hard at honing his skateboarding prowess and unlearning the harmful habits ingrained in him by adam’s ten-month stint in his head. due to his dual citizenship, he is eligible to skateboard again in the olympic games, this time for italy.

meanwhile, kaoru has been fighting to retain his identity in the face of the huge loss that is his inability to skateboard. motivated by rage, he finds solace in a new sport: pistol shooting. he works hard, and is quickly eligible to compete for japan at the olympics.

over the course of 4 years, kaoru and kojiro have been following each others’ careers through news headings, youtube videos, and online articles from global sports journals. when they meet again at their second olympics, will kojiro be able to cut through the steely exterior that kaoru has created for himself since his injury? or will they continue to remain apart?

STAGE SPOILERS BELOW

i gotta just rant, stream of thought, the current Orpheus, Bryan Munar, is INCREDIBLE ORPHEUS and Megan Colton as Eurydice was soooo good 😭😭😭but the entire cast was SOOO GOOD. I loved how the actors applied their own version of the characters, and weren't afraid of deviating from the CD recordings. they worked so well!! FIRST NON-BINARY HERMES AND THEY KILLED IT!!!!!

THEY ADDED A VERSE TO EPIC III AND THE LYRCIS WERE SO GOOD I WISH THEY WERE ON THE OBCR NOW I NEED A RECORDING OF THIS CAST SO BADLY (like how South Korea records multiple CDs of all their casts)

the stage we saw it on wasn't big enough for the rotating stage, or the five swinging lights, but they did incredible staging to compensate. they made it work, and they brought out the two extra lights, and two of the actors swung them with the overhead lights during wait for me it was sooo good

THE WALLS RUMBLED AND AND PARTED FOR ORPHEUS IN WAIT FOR ME I WANTED TO SCREAM

at the end, when Orpheus turns and sees Eurydice, he runs down the stairs to her and collapses as she gets taken back into the underworld screaming crying throwing up

LOVED the Fates. the actors at a lot of fun teasing all the characters. their lanterns in Doubt Comes In are so cool! I like that they light up and dim on time with the music and lyrics.

the way that Orpheus says, "What do I do now?" after Eurydice tells him he finished his song was so funny lol. he looked like a deer in the headlights and asked it like he was so confused, got a good laugh out the audience.

there's so much more but that's all i can think of right now. omggggg it was so good :DDDDDDD

i also spent way too much money on merch afterward lmao
