Heavenly Pearl's Fic Review 2024 - Inconvenient Crush
"Inconvenient Crush" is my current WIP, a JJBek pre-canon fic.
Summary: Shortly after fifteen-year-old Otabek moves to Toronto to train with Alain and Nathalie Leroy, he finds himself crushing on their oldest son, JJ, the current junior World Champion. Too bad JJ already has a gorgeous girlfriend and considers himself straight. Though Otabek tries to move on from his hopeless crush by finding a girlfriend of his own, when JJ and Isabella unexpectedly break-up, he discovers that JJ may not be as straight as he claims to be…
Thoughts: I mentioned this in last year's review, but like with "Eternal Dream", I still regret writing this story from only Otabek's POV, and I'm still not all that happy with how I characterized him. JJ would have been so much easier to get into the head of! And, gah, I can't believe how long it's turning out! When I first started writing it, I was thinking it might be around 60,000-75,000 words, but as of Chapter 10, it's already over 100,000 words, with four more chapters planned. So much for finishing it this year… It will definitely be completed in 2025, though!
