I am not opposed to this trope but I have simply disliked the chemistry and/or performances from most of the BL entries I’ve seen…at least for what kind of series I’d consider to truly be may/december. I’ve dated someone nearly twenty years older than me so…(30/50 before the tumblr police come to arrest him lol). I’ll go with Moonlight Chicken, which I absolutely adore, but it does feel like cheating when the actors are only five years apart themselves and married irl.

But not seeing it as truly age gap romance is no shade to Earth’s performance of a 40 year old here. People shit on it like he was supposed to look like 40 year olds should look like they’re dying, but I honestly did get the sense that he was appropriately tired to his bones in that middle-aged kind of way. I can’t blame a 40 year old gay man for having good skin. I have known many. But ohmygosh, the skin-searing chemistry that happens between EarthMix in this show. They can do more with a couple of glances than some pairs can do with a whole series. And the age-gap, as it should in a may/December romance, mattered here. Not just about the rejuvenation of the elder generation, MLC is about different eras of queerness and economies in Thailand, and how one can make peace with the changes.
