SOMETHING’S NOT RIGHT EP 7: THIS IS A MESS ALRIGHT
Honestly? This episode pissed me off. Again. So now we find out that Hamin told Jihoon not to bother Ba Woo just because Ba Woo asked him to? As a favor?Like… okay. This is the writers’ way of saying: “Still your fucking Hamin/Ba Woo shipper heart - that’s not happening… Bitch.” Fine. Whatever. Honestly, Ba Woo is too uptight for my funny, gorgeous, full-of-life Hamin anyway. And yet, I’m pissed. Why are you still showing Hamin running after Ba Woo, watching him with Jihoon, and whispering “this doesn’t feel right”? WHAT IS THE POINT ANYMORE, SHOW?
And look, I’ve been quiet about this, but the dialogue pacing in this show is atrocious. Those long-ass pauses between every line are killing me. Instead of keeping me hooked, they pull me right out of the scene. I should be locked in. Instead, I’m rolling my eyes and activating my inner hater.
Anyway. Let’s talk about the Jihoon vs. Ba Woo confrontation. Main issue? These characters have no chemistry. Jihoon’s obsession with Ba Woo’s whereabouts and who he’s hanging out with might be endearing as very close friends. But as lovers? Absolutely nothing. I’m just not buying it. HAVE YOU SEEN HAMIN AND BA WOO LOOK INTO EACH OTHER’S EYES, THOUGH? Exactly. You know what I mean.
Back to the confrontation. The Ba Woo/Jihoon conversation is still pure miscommunication because the writers clearly needed to drag it out till Episode 8. I’m getting both “I really like you, and I can’t believe you don’t believe me” and “I read your diary and now feel guilty so I’m saying stuff just to keep you” vibes from Jihoon - because the script didn’t wanna commit in this episode. And I hate it.
I get what Ba Woo’s thinking - Jihoon read his diary and now he’s “pretending” to be in love just to avoid losing his best friend. But like… isn’t that kind of absurd? Is Ba Woo also secretly a BL fan? Is his favorite trope “I’m straight but gay for only you”? Because really, what kind of logic is that - thinking Jihoon would kiss, date, and literally make love to him just out of friendship preservation? Be serious.
(Ba Woo, he’s probably gayer than you honestly. Look at this.)
To be fair, in this episode, Jihoon was giving off that exact energy with his hesitant, “I do like you… I mean, maybe?” vibe. The lady doth protest too much. So I gotta give Ba Woo the tiniest sliver of benefit of the doubt. But honestly? That’s just bad writing.
Also. I will forever cringe at the “do you pity me?” tear-filled line. Personally? I want pity when I’m suffering. It’s called easier treatment and emotional discounts. Just saying.
And what’s with the a two-minute lesbian subplot tacked on like it’s an afterthought? You know what? Let’s not even get into that. I’m too tired.
Tomorrow is the last episode. Let’s finish this mess.
