Who I Can Run To? - Part 3 & 4
Part 3:
Jey sat on the other side of the VIP section, enjoying the music. He kept glancing over at Sharmela, feeling curious about her. As the night went on, everyone had drinks and enjoyed themselves.
âGo talk to her...â Jon said, snapping Jey out of his daze.
âWho?â Jey asked
Jon used his chin and pointed in Sharmelaâs direction. Jey looked over and saw that Sharmela was talking to Montez and Bianca.
âShe looks busy...â Jey said.
Jon shook his head and laughed. Jey smiled and walked to the bar. As he ordered his drink, he sensed a change in the atmosphere. Looking over, he saw Sharmela standing beside him, ordering another vodka and cranberry.
âHey,â Jey said as he turned to face her.
âHey, how are you doing?â Sharmela asked.
Something about the way Sharmela asked Jey, âHow are you?â made Jeyâs chest tighten. No one had ever really asked him how he was before.
âIâm good.. What about yourself?â Jey asked.
âSame, just trying to get used to the craziness of the WWE...â Sharmela answered as the bartender handed them their drinks.
âI understand, our world can get a little crazy...â Jey said as he and Sharmela walked back to the VIP section.
As Sharmela and Jey walked in, Charlotte and Jon looked at them and smiled.
âThank you for bringing her out...â Jon whispered to Charlotte.
âNo problem, I think they will be good for each other,â Charlotte said as she watched Sharmela and Jey sit next to each other on the couch.
As the night went on, Sharmela and Jey talked and got to know each other. Their easy laughter stood out in the booth, drawing curious looks from Charlotte and Jon. Jey shared a funny story about trying to make banana pancakes for his sons and almost setting off the smoke alarm, which made Sharmela laugh out loud. She told him about sneaking into her grandmotherâs wrestling parties as a kid just to watch the entrances, a tradition she still keeps. Between the stories and laughter, there were quiet moments, sometimes long enough for their smiles to fade. Sharmela would look away, tracing her finger around the rim of her glass and watching the condensation. Neither of them pulled away right away, letting the moment linger, quiet and uncertain. Jey cleared his throat, looking down, a half-smile drifting off his lips. At one point, Sharmela asked about his favorite moments with his sons, her voice gentle but careful. Jey paused, the memory of missed family breakfasts pressing in on him, and for a second, he just stared at the table, jaw tensed. He glanced up finally, eyes tight with an ache he tried not to show, and said softly, "It's been hard lately. I don't always know how to be the dad they need." The words hovered between them, making the air thick. Sharmela didn't rush in to fill the silence; she just watched him, her gaze steady and open, making room for his vulnerability without pushing. After a long moment, she said quietly, "I think you care more than you let yourself believe."
She reached across the table and rested her hand on his for a moment. Jey felt her thumb brush his knuckles and was surprised by how comforting it was. He didnât say anything else, but the silence felt different, as if they both understood each other without words. Sharmela squeezed his hand again before letting go, her look showing she understood even what he couldnât say.
Songs they both loved came on, and they guessed lyrics in a playful competition, each losing count of who was winning. When a slow song played, Jey offered his hand with a grin, masking his nerves. On the dance floor, they moved easily together, but for a moment, Jey glanced away, looking almost vulnerable, like he was wrestling with the courage to be seen. Sharmela noticed, squeezing his hand a bit tighter. As the song ended and they walked back, Jey lingered close by Sharmelaâs side, the nervous warmth between them making the connection feel real. When the night ended, Jey didnât want to leave her side, a mix of hope and uncertainty settling in his chest.
"It's been a long time since I met someone I can talk to like this," he said with a gentle smile.
"I feel the same," Sharmela replied, meeting his gaze with warmth in her eyes. This new connection felt refreshing, as if they had known each other for much longer.
âSo, I was wondering if I could get your number?â Jey asked as he and Sharmela were leaving the club.
Sharmela looked up at Jey and smiled, âSure...â She hesitated for a moment, then added quietly, "I'd like that."
Sharmela and Jey exchanged numbers. Jey leaned down and gave her a gentle kiss on the cheek, making her blush. Her cheeks felt warm, and she smiled at how sincere he was, hoping it meant something more might happen.
âText me when you get back to the hotel, so I know you're safe,â Jey said as Charlotte grabbed Sharmelaâs hand and pulled her away.
Jey stood there, watching as Sharmela and Charlotte walked away. He was snapped back to reality when Jon slapped him on his shoulder.
âYou good, bro?â Jon asked.
âUm.. Yeah.. â Jey said as he watched Sharmela disappear through the doors.
Jey and Jon left the club and headed to their car. As Jey got in the passenger seat, he thought about Sharmela. He never expected to meet someone and feel such a strong connection so quickly.
As Jey got ready for bed, his phone buzzed on the nightstand. He picked it up and saw Sharmelaâs name pop up on the screen. He smiled as he opened his phone and checked his messages.
âWe made it back to the hotel safely. Thanks for keeping me company tonight.â
Jey smiled as he read Sharmelaâs message. He had a good time talking to her and getting to know her.
âIâm glad you're safe. It was my pleasure hanging out with you.â
Jey sent the message and put his phone  down on the nightstand. As he got comfortable in the bed, his phone buzzed again. He checked his messages, and it was from Sharmela, a simple âGood night.â  He replied, put his phone down, and began to doze off with Sharmela on his mind.
The next morning, Jey was jolted out of his sleep by someone banging on the door.
âWhat fuck?â Jey muttered as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.
He picked up the phone and looked at the time; it was 8 am. He sighed as he pulled himself out of the bed and walked to the door. He looked through the peephole and saw Jon on the other side of the door.
âBro, are you crazy?â Jey said as he opened the door.
Jon shook his head and laughed at his little brother. Jon had too much energy for someone who came home from the club at 3am.
Jey walked back into the room with Jon behind him. Â Jey plopped back down on the bed, and Jon sat in the chair.
âNah, we're getting up and getting dressed. The girls want to get breakfast before we have to be at the arena.â Jon said as he pulled the blanket off his brother.
Jey looked at Jon and smiled, âThat sounds like a plan. Let me get ready.â
Jon laughed at Jey; he knew that once he heard the girls wanted food, Jey would be down.
Half an hour later, Jey came out of the bathroom ready to tackle the morning. He wore an all-black outfit, his silver chain glistening on his neck.
âYou ready?â Jon asked as he watched Jey walk across the room.
âHell yeah, letâs go...â Jey said as she slipped on his shoes.
Jon and Jey walked out of the room and headed to the elevator. When the elevator stopped on floor 5, the guys were greeted by Sharmela, Charlotte, and Trinity. Jeyâs eyes instantly locked on Sharmela, who was wearing her favorite purple âYeetâ shirt, black leggings, and her black knee-high boots.
âI see you repping the main event...â Jon said.
Sharmela looked down at her shirt and blushed. âItâs my favorite color.â
When the elevator door closed, Charlotte stood in front of the couple. Â Trinity was snuggled up with Jon, and Sharmela was standing next to Jey, awkwardly. Â The elevator came to a stop, and the doors opened into the lobby, where everyone started to file out, leaving Sharmela and Jey to get off last. Jey reached out and grabbed Sharmelaâs hand as they both walked off the elevator. Sharmela looked down at her hand, feeling confused.Â
âYou okay?â Jey asked.
âUhh, yeah, the last time someone grabbed my hand it wasnât so gentle,â Sharmela said as they walked to where everyone was standing.
Sharmela tucked her hair behind her ear and looked away for a moment. There was a quiet hesitation in her voice, hinting at memories Jey didnât know. He noticed how alert she was, checking her phone out of habit. For a moment, Jey wondered about the stories behind her careful smile, and he squeezed her hand more gently to reassure her.
Sharmela took a deep breath and turned to face the group. As everyone got into the truck, Jey and Sharmela were sitting next to each other. He gently wrapped his arm around her waist, which made her feel safe. Sharmela exhaled the breath she did not know she was holding, and she relaxed against Jeyâs side.
The drive to the diner was filled with conversation and laughter. But Jey noticed Sharmela was quiet and kept looking out the window.
âShar, are you okay?â Jey asked, snapping Sharmela out of her daze.
âYeah, just sitting here thinking...â Sharmela answered.
âYou can talk to me if you want...â Jey said.
âI know, but letâs go eat first,â Sharmela said as the truck came to a stop.
The driver came out, opened the door, and everyone filed out of the truck and headed into the diner. Â Once everyone was seated and had ordered their food, the table was quiet. Jon cleared his throat, and everyone looked at him.
âSo, before we start eating, I want to welcome Sharmela to our crazy world. I hope we donât scare you away. âJon said, raising his glass of juice in the air.
âThank you.. And nothing can scare me. Iâm built for this.â Sharmela said, clinking her glass with everyone.
Jey watched Sharmela take a sip of her juice. He sees something in her that he would like to learn more about. Â The food came, and everyone ate, laughed, and told stories of the road. When it was time to pay the bill, the twins paid, and then they all headed back to the hotel.
âHey, do you want to hang out and watch a movie?â Jey asked Sharmela when everyone got in the truck.
âSure...â Sharmela said as she climbed into the truck and got comfortable before Jey got in
As the truck drove to the hotel, Sharmela took her phone out and sent Charlotte a text.
âGoing back to Jeyâs room to hang out and watch a movie...â
Charlotte took her phone out and read the text. She looked at Sharmela and smiled.
âBe careful and donât do anything I wouldnât do.â
Sharmela smiled at Charlotteâs reply and put her phone back into her purse. As the truck came to a stop, the butterflies started to fly in Sharmelaâs stomach.
âThereâs no reason to be scared. You guys are only watching a movie together.â Sharmela thought.
Everyone got out of the truck, took the elevator, and headed to their rooms. Â As Jey was changing into his bedroom clothes, his phone buzzed. When he looked at the screen, it was Charlotte.
âUce, donât do anything crazy tonight. Just make Sharmela feel safe.â
Jey smiled at the message. He loves Charlotte's sisterly concern.
âDonât worry, Queen, I will make her feel safe.â
Jey sent his reply and put his phone down. The phone buzzed, and someone knocked on the door. Jey went to the door and opened it to find Sharmela on the other side, holding snacks and drinks.
âI come bearing gifts,â Sharmela said as Jey moved out of the doorway to let her in.
âOh, the good stuff...â Jey said as he watched Sharmela walk through the door.
Sharmela walked into the room and placed the drinks and snacks on the table. Jey came in and smiled. Sharmela had changed into her purple pajamas and her fuzzy slippers.
âSo what kind of movies do you like?â Jey asked.
âI like comedy, action, and horror,â Sharmela said,
Jeyâs eyes grew wide at the fact that Sharmela likes horror movies.
âYou donât look like the type to like horror movies...â Jey said as he turned on the TV and started flipping through the movie catalog.
âWell, Mr. Fatu, thereâs a lot that will surprise you about me,â Sharmela said as she got comfortable on his bed.
âOh, and I'm ready to find it all out, Ms.Singh.â Jey said as he found  âChildâs Playâ on the movie list.
âOh yes, one of my favorite movies as a kid,â Sharmela said.
Jey grabbed a bag of chips and a couple of bottles of water and sat next to Sharmela on the bed. Lying next to Sharmela and watching a movie felt like the most natural thing, as if they belonged together.
Chuckie is on the screen, stabbing a man to death, and Sharmela started laughing. Jey looked at her like she was crazy.
âGirl, you're laughing at the craziest parts...â Jey said.
Sharmela smiled, âWatching these movies as an adult is funny. But as a kid, it scared me as hell.â
As the day went on, Sharmela and Jey hung out and watched more movies. They had room service for lunch. As they were waiting for the food, Jey sat next to Sharmela on the bed and started playing with her bracelets.
"So, you said the last time someone grabbed your hand it was nice... What happened?" Jey asked.
Sharmela looked at Jey with sadness in her eyes. Jey reached for her hand.
"I had an ex that was abusive..." Sharmela said.
"Enough said..." Jey said, holding Sharmela's hand.
Before Sharmela could say anything else, there was a knock on the door. Jey got up from the bed and answered the door, bringing the food into the room. Sharmela helped set up the food.
âThis burger and fries are so good,â Sharmela said.
âYeah, that was a good choice,â Jey said, looking at Sharmela.
Sharmela looked at Jey and smiled at his sleepy face.
âYou look sleepy...â Sharmela said.
âYeah, these long days are catching up on me,â Jey said.
âWell, you should take a nap. I will go back to my room.â Sharmela said.
âNo, stay and lie with me,â Jey said.
The words slipped out of Jeyâs mouth before he could stop himself, and he looked at Sharmela for her reaction.
Sharmela blushed, âOkay...â
Sharmela lay on the bed next to Jey, and it felt natural. As she settled in, she felt a flutter of nerves. It had been a long time since she let herself relax beside someone new. She wondered if he could sense her hope for a fresh start after past heartbreaks. For a moment, old fears about being vulnerable and getting hurt tried to return, but she focused on the comfort of being with Jey. Looking at him, she let herself believe she could take a chance and let something good begin again.
Part 4:
Sharmelaâs eyes drifted open slowly, not knowing where she was until she felt an arm around her waist and the soft snoring coming from beside her. She looked over to her left and found Jey in a deep slumber. Â She looked around the room and spotted her phone on the nightstand. She turned on the screen and checked the time.
â9 pm...â Sharmela muttered to herself, âWe must have been tired to fall asleep for 7 hours.â
Jey stirred in his sleep and slowly opened his eyes. He smiled when he saw Sharmela sitting up in bed, and his arm was still draped around her waist.
âHey...â Sharmela said as Jey rubbed his eyes like a little baby, making her smile.
âHey, beautiful,â Jey said as he sat up in bed.
Sharmela smiled, âHow did you sleep?â
It was amazing, I canât tell you the last time I had such a good sleep.â Jey said as he lay his head on Sharmelaâs lap.
Before Sharmela could say anything, there was a knock on the door. Jey got up from the bed and walked to the door. Sharmela smiled when she heard Jimmyâs voice as the boys came back into the room. Jimmy stopped when he saw Sharmela in the bed.
âHey!â Jimmy said as he sat down on the couch.
âHey,â Sharmela said, pulling the blanket higher.
âSo, whatâs the plan for the night?â Jimmy asked.
âNothing, just hanging out and catching up on some sleep,â Jey said as he lay back down next to Sharmela.
âOh, I feel that...â Jimmy said.
After a few minutes, Jimmy headed back to his room, leaving Sharmela and Jey in the room.
âThank you for tonight...â Sharmela said
âFor what?â Jey asked, looking at Shamela with her halo of curls surrounding her round face.
âFor making me feel comfortable and not out of place,â Sharmela said.
âTo be honest, itâs been a long time since Iâve felt comfortable with someone, since my divorce,â Jey said.
Sharmelaâs gaze softened when she heard about Jeyâs divorce. Â Sharmela placed her hand on Jeyâs cheek.
âIâm sorry to hear about your divorce,â Sharmela said.
âItâs been a year since the divorce, and it's time for me to get back in the game,â Jey said as he held Sharmelaâs hand and placed a gentle kiss on her palm.
The kiss caused the heat to creep up Sharmelaâs neck, and her cheeks turned pink. Jey looked at Sharmela and smiled as he noticed her blushing.
âBut can I be honest with you?â Jey asked.
Yeah, sure...â Sharmela said.
âEver since I met you in the club, thereâs something about you that has attracted me to you. I would love to get to know you more.â Jey said, âWould you like that?â
âI would love that,â Sharmela said, lying next to Jey and cuddling close to him.
Jey let out a breath and held Sharmela close. He hoped he wouldnât mess things up and that he and Sharmela could grow closer.

Who Can I Run To? Part 1 and Part 2
Divorce...
Jey never imagined Takecia would mention divorce. They'd been together since they were fourteen, raising two sons. Now, his world felt upside down. He remembered her slippers by the kitchen door, always there, no matter how much he teased her. That faded blue terrycloth, shaped to her feet, was as familiar as his own reflection. When she cooked, she would hum R&B songs and snap her fingers to the beat. The smell of sweet onions filled the house, bringing back memories. He thought of their first meeting, when Takecia almost spilled her drink and laughed, her cheeks bright as sunrise. Now, that memory stung. Even their silly arguments about sweet tea or sticky notes echoed in his mind. Everything around him reminded him of a life that once fit together so well.
Jey's mind filled with memories as his thoughts raced. How did things get so bad? Was it something he said, or what he didn't say? He remembered coming home late, telling himself it was for the family, but now he wondered if he was just avoiding problems he couldnât fix. Guilt crept in. How many times had he brushed off her complaints as nagging instead of seeing them as calls for help? Maybe he focused too much on work, hoping it would make up for the warmth he'd lost. Looking at an old photo of the four of them smiling, he wondered if he truly valued what he had before it was gone. He blamed himself for missing the quiet in the kitchen and for her laughter fading. Their laughter and dreams now felt far away, making his pain and regret even heavier.
âWhat do you mean by divorce?â Jey asked
"Jey, I want a divorce. Iâm done. I raised the boys, ran this house, and now Iâm invisible. We barely even speak."
She stayed up waiting for him, her anger slowly turning into a deep, tired silence that only a mother understands. Each tick of the clock grew louder. Most nights, after quietly walking the boys to bed and closing their doors, she wandered through the dim house, feeling like a shadow. The TV was just background noise. The house felt too big, as if she were lost inside it, with echoes growing emptier every day. She would rest her hand on the kitchen counter to steady herself and stare at the untouched mug of tea she had made for Jey, hoping heâd come home. She remembered their laughter in the kitchen, the inside jokes, glances, and the boys playing underfoot. Now, that memory hurts, like biting your tongue during a favorite song. Loneliness wasnât just being alone; it was feeling invisible, her care fading into the background of daily life. Folding his shirts and listening for his car became reminders that she was waiting to be noticed, but Jey never looked. By sunrise, the ache in her chest grew deeper. She wanted to be seen, even as disappointment kept her quiet. She took a deep breath and gripped the edge of the couch, struggling with frustration and exhaustion.
"Thatâs just it. Youâre never here. Always working. Iâm worn out, Jey."
Jey stared at the family photos. At first, shock froze him, and disbelief quickly turned into numbness, heavy in his chest. As he tried to process the news, dread spread and tightened as he looked at the smiling faces on the wall. Had he missed the signs? Waves of regret and fear closed in, each new feeling pushing the last aside. The room seemed to shrink, and breathing got harder as his emotions tumbled: first shock, then anxiety, then a deep pain.
Jey nodded and packed for his house show in Tampa. Everything felt heavy. In the car, he looked at his wedding ring, which now felt like a weight instead of a symbol.
âIâll be back Tuesday,â Jey said.
Takecia looked up and nodded, her eyes meeting Jeyâs for a moment, showing both sadness and acceptance. Jey left, feeling the humid air press in on him. As he put his suitcase in the car and sat behind the wheel, he felt empty and disconnected.
As he drove away, Jey felt empty and full of regret. He thought about all the moments with family he had missed. The pain was severe, but he still held hope that things could change.
While driving, Jey thought about what Takecia had said. He realized that focusing on work had hurt his family. Sadness slowly turned into a determination to fight for them.
His thoughts were interrupted when his phone rang; it was his brother Jonathan.
âOn my way, man.â
âYou want dinner or what?â Jon pressed.
"We've got chicken. Sound good?" Jon asked.
"Chickenâs fine," Jey said, slowing for traffic.
Jey sighed. His chest tightened; anxiety, shame, and resignation tangled inside him. His voice quavered. He felt alone, more isolated than ever. Yet part of him still wanted to open up.
âAlright. Drive safe. See you soon,â Jon said.
âYeah,â Jey said, voice dull.
Jey ended the call and drove. The rest of the drive was quiet, his mind racing. Around 9 pm, he parked at Jon and Trinâs, took a deep breath, grabbed his bag, and rang the doorbell.
When the door opened, Trin greeted Jey with a warm smile, her pregnant belly noticeably protruding.
âHey, sole,â Trinity greeted, hugging him at the door.
Jey hugged Trinity and followed her down the hall.
Jonathan came out of the kitchen, wiping his hands on a towel, and greeted his brother with a nod and a smile.
"Letâs eat," Jonathan said, clapping his hands together.
At the table, Trinity noticed Jeyâs slumped shoulders and sad expression. He wasnât his usual cheerful self. His empty eyes and worried look made it clear he was struggling. Trinityâs concern shifted from confusion to empathy as she wondered how to reach him, sensing pain behind his silence.
Jey looked up from his food, âTakecia wants a divorce...â
"Weâre here for you, man. Whatever you need," Jon said, pulling Jey into a hug.
"Thanks," Jey muttered, staring at the glass.
Later, Jey lay on his back, staring at the ceiling. Moonlight traced a line above him. Anxiety tightened in his chest with each shallow breath, and he pressed a hand to his ribs, searching for comfort. Worry for Jayce and Jaciyah grew, and he feared losing the boys, too. Grief mixed with anger at himself, regret weighing him down as the night grew darker. He rolled over, trying to block out the silence, but a small hope flickered. Old promises mixed with determination and pain. Exhaustion finally dulled the storm and led him to restless sleep, dreams filled with laughter and stubborn hope.Â
When he got home, he found Takecia on the couch, watching TV. The pain on her face was clear. Her eyes looked hollow. She barely looked at him, and sadness showed in every glance.
"Hey," Jey said in the doorway, voice small.
"Hey," Takecia replied, not looking up.
After a moment, Jey sighed and went to the bedroom. Dread and sadness pounded his heart. On the dresser sat an envelope with his name on itâdivorce papers. Memories and regret crashed in. The loss sliced him, sharp and almost unbearable.
Takecia stared at the TV, memories coming back. At first, happier times surfaced, briefly soothing her. Then frustration and bitterness returned, still raw and unresolved. Wanting to feel close to someone again, she thought about starting over, feeling both relief and fear. As disappointment faded, a slow hope for happiness took its place as she pictured a different future.Â
They used to stay up late on Fridays, drinking sweet tea and talking, their voices blending with the quiet. Now, the living room felt empty. Sometimes Jey came home after midnight to find Takecia asleep on the couch, her tea cold and forgotten.Â
One morning, after one of those nights, she hurried past him, eyes fixed ahead as she made the boysâ lunches, moving quickly and silently. The days blurred together. While the kids argued upstairs, Jey noticed a sticky note on the fridgeâjust a grocery list, no more heart-shaped reminders or inside jokes. That evening, dirty dishes filled the sink. Takecia washed them alone, her back to Jey. He tried to joke, hoping to lighten the mood, but her reply was barely more than a tired sigh.
Missed dinners and short goodnights became routine. They spoke less. Heavy silences and quick arguments over bills and chores took over. Easy laughter vanished. Now, they rarely made eye contact. Over time, their home felt too big for just two. Each room echoed with loneliness.
Even so, Takecia still had doubts. Tears stung her eyes as she pictured Jey laughing with the boys. The thought made her hesitateâfear warred with her longing for happiness. Biting her lip, she searched for courage, wishing happiness for both of them, even if that meant letting go.
Jey inhaled a deep breath, squared his shoulders, and walked back into the living room with the papers in his hand. As he passed through the living room, he met Takeciaâs gaze, exhaling slowly as he stopped briefly near her.
"Got the papers. My lawyer will handle it," Jey said, his voice flat.
"Okay," Takecia said, eyes fixed on the TV.
Jey looked at Takecia, his face showing confusion and regret. He felt how far they had come from their old happiness to the sadness in the room now. Seeing the family photos reminded him of his promise to be there for his sons. He set his jaw and got ready to leave for his lawyer's office. Jey entered his lawyerâs office, feeling defeated. Phil, sympathetic, greeted him.
âWhat brings you in?â Phil asked.
"Takecia wants a divorce. These are the papers. I need you to check them," Jey said.
âLet me see,â Phil said, taking the envelope.
Jey watched as Phil sat behind his desk and started reading the papers. He shook his head.
"Pretty simple," Phil said. "She wants the house and $5,000 a month for Jayce."
"Should I just sign now?" Jey asked.
"The sooner you sign, the sooner itâs over," Phil said, sliding the papers across.
After speaking with Phil, Jey returned home, nerves twisting in his stomach. He noticed Jaciyahâs car in the driveway. Inside, his sons sat tensely with their mother. Jayceâs wide, frightened eyes found Jey, and he ran for a desperate hug. Jaciyahâs quiet embrace was stiff, his expression shadowed with worry. Jey sensed the gravity of the situation written on their faces. Unsure how to begin, he cleared his throat, sat on the love seat, and waited in silence until Takecia spoke.
"Iâm happy that my babies are together. Your dad and I have some news to share. We have decided that it was time to get a divorce," Takecia said as she watched the boys' reactions.
"We decided? No.. You decided and gave me no choice," Jey thought to himself.
Jaciyah looked at his parents, helplessness clouding his face. Not knowing what to say, he got up and walked quietly to his bedroom, shoulders slumped. Jayce, confused and hurt, sat frozen on the couch, jaw trembling as he tried to hold back tears.
âJeyce, you okay, son?â Jey asked.
Jayce sat on the couch, visibly confused and hurt by everything happening. He fidgeted with the hem of his shirt. After a few silent moments, he looked at his dad, eyes shining with sadness and anger. 'Why did things change so much?' he asked quietly. 'I thought we would all stay together forever.'
Jayce got up from the couch, moving slowly as if the situation was too heavy. He watched as his youngest son disappeared from the room, his heart twisting with guilt. He turned to face Takecia, eyes misty with loss and uncertainty about what to say next. He wanted to make sense of everything.
Jey watched his youngest son disappear from the room, then turned to face Takecia.
âMy lawyer reviewed the papers. Everything is straightforward and signed. I want to move forward. Since you are keeping the house, I will move into the downtown rental,â Jey said, handing Takecia the envelope.
Takecia exhaled as Jey went upstairs. He stopped at Jaciyahâs door, knocked, and entered when his son stepped aside.
âSon, I know this whole divorce thing caught you off guard. Hell, it caught me off guard, too. But know I love you, and I will always be here for you.â Jey said as he sat down in the computer chair.
âI know, it's just I saw you and mom as being together forever,â Jaciyah said.
âI know, but people grow apart. But that doesnât mean Iâm going to stop loving your mom.â Jey said.
âI know,â Jaciyah said.
âWell, Iâm going to need your help... How long are you going to be home?â Jey asked.
âIâll be home for a week,â Jaciyah said.
Surrounded by reminders of his life with Takecia and the boys, Jey felt his chest tighten, and his head grow heavy. As he made a mental list of what to pack for his new apartment, each item brought back more memories and sadness.
Jey went into the bathroom and turned on the shower. Steam filled the room, and his reflection blurred in the mirror. The smell of cedar and mint was familiar. He felt sadness, grief, guilt, and even a bit of relief. Leaning against the cool tiles, he let himself feel his anger and despair. In that quiet moment, he let himself feel it all.
Over the next few days, Jey and the boys packed his things and moved them downtown. Jimmy and Naomi helped unpack.
âDamn, brother, itâs really all happening,â Jimmy said.
âYeah, itâs happening...â Jey said as he unpacked a box.
Trinity arrived with groceries and household items Jey would need. She set the bags in the kitchen and turned to her brother-in-law.
âYou know you didnât have to do all of that,â Jey said as he walked to the other side of the kitchen.
âI know.. But I wanted to. Help ease your stress.â Trin said.
Later that night, after everyone had left, Jey lay in bed thinking about how much his life had changed. He used to be a married man working for his family, but now he is divorced and has to split time with his kids.
Jey closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep as he made a vow to make every day a better day from here on out.
A Year Later:
A year after the divorce, Jey focused on work and supporting his sons. The locker room felt colder; championship wins tasted hollow without family in the front row. One morning, as he packed his duffel for another road trip, he paused at a school flyer on the fridge: 'Jayce's Science Fair, April 15.'
That Saturday, Jey slipped quietly into the school gym, still in a WWE hoodie, and found Jayce nervously adjusting his project about volcanoes. Jayce's eyes lit up when he saw his father. Jey knelt beside him, listening carefully as Jayce explained every part, asking questions where he didn't understand. When Jayce won third place, Jey cheered the loudest, snapping pictures and telling his son how proud he was.
That evening, at home, both boys gathered around the table, tossing their school stories back and forth. Jey set down his phone. He hadn't looked at it during dinner, not once. When Jaciyah brought up feeling nervous about his future, Jey admitted his fears, telling the boys he was still learning to handle change. The conversation turned honest and raw, all three laughing shyly by the end of it.
Even with his success, Jey sometimes felt empty, especially during quiet mornings on the road or long nights in hotel rooms. He would sit on the edge of a motel bed, wrestling boots on the floor, scrolling through family photos while silence filled the room. Becoming both Intercontinental and World Heavyweight Champion had been his dream, but now each win felt bittersweet because he couldnât share it with the family that once cheered him on. One evening, after a championship match, the crowdâs noise faded as Jey went to the locker room, breathing hard and cooling off. He looked at his gold title belt, alone, then picked up his phone and hesitated before calling his sons. Jayce answered, sounding surprised and happy. "Did you see the match?" Jey asked, forcing a smile. " Won!" Jayce cheered, but the excitement dimmed a little. "Are you coming to my game Saturday?"
Jey's chest tightened. "Iâll do everything I can, son. I promise."
Wrestling became more than a job; it helped him work through his regret, guilt, and hope, turning pain into strength. Over time, he tried to forgive himself for the time he lost at home and the hurt he caused Takecia. There were days when he would drive straight from an overnight flight to the bleachers at Jayceâs soccer game, still stiff from the last match, clutching a coffee he barely tasted. He watched Jayce score a goal, caught his son's glance in the crowd, and felt a pinch of pride and longing mix together.
He found himself calling his sons more often, asking about their days, apologizing when he messed up, and showing upâeven when he was tiredâfor their games and school events. One night, after dinner at the new apartment, Jaciyah opened up about missing how things used to be. Jey admitted, quietly, "I miss it too, but Iâm here now. I'm always going to be here."
Over time, Jey learned to talk to his sons about his feelings. He listened more, reached out even when it was difficult, and tried to be present in ways he hadnât before. Because of this, his bond with his sons grew, and some of his anger and shame faded. It wasnât easy, but Jey found a fragile peace as he rebuilt his life, step by step.
One Saturday, Jey rushed from training to Jayceâs soccer game, still in his workout clothes. Jayce lit up with joy when he saw his father. Jeyâs support energized Jayce, who scored the winning goal. As Jayce celebrated, Jey realized these moments mattered most. Despite his busy career, being present for his sons was what truly counted. Balancing wrestling and family has shown his growth since the divorce.
Jey was sitting in his locker room when someone knocked on the door.
âCome in!â Jey yelled from where he was sitting.
The door opened, and Jimmy and Trinity entered. Jey smiled at his brother and sister-in-law, knowing he would not have made it through difficult times without their support and encouragement.
âWhatâs up, bro?â Jimmy said as he gave Jey a dap.
âNothing, man, just wrapping my head around this match against Bron,â Jey said.
Trinity came from around Jimmy and gave Jey a hug. Trinity sat down next to Jey as she watched Jimmy pace around the locker room.
âSo Trin and I were thinking you should get back into the dating pool...â Jon said, leaning against the counter.
Jey looked at his brother in surprise. Dating wasnât on his mind. Right now, he just wants to focus on wrestling and being a good father.
Just put yourself out there and see if anything bites.â Jon said
âIâll think about it...â Jey said.
âWell, Charlotte is hosting her birthday celebration at the club tonight. You should roll through with us.â Jon said.
âAlright, letâs see how I feel after this match,â Jey said as he got up from the couch.
Jey went out, and he and Bron put on a banger match, which Jey won. He spotted Jon and Trin and walked over to them.
âBRO! That was a banger!â Jon said, hugging Jey.
âThanks.. What time are yâall going to the club?â Jey asked.
âWe are leaving around 11...â Jon said.
âAlright, Â letâs head back to the spot, so I can get ready. Itâs time to celebrate.â Jey said.
Jon nodded. Jey left the arena and went back to his hotel. He took a hot shower, letting the water relax his sore muscles. He wanted to enjoy the night. After showering, he got dressed in his usual black outfit and silver chain. He checked himself in the mirror, smiled, and texted Jon that he was ready. When he got to the lobby, Jon was waiting for him.
âWhereâs Trin?â Jey asked.
âSheâs tired, so sheâs going to sit this one out.
âOh, alright..â Jey said.
Jon and Jey left the hotel and got into the waiting Uber. On the way to the club, Jey scrolled through Instagram and noticed Charlotte had posted a photo with a beautiful Indian woman. The caption read, âThe one who keeps me looking like a million dollars. @Melababy2287â
Jey clicked on the girlâs Instagram handle, but noticed her page was set to private. He decided not to send her a friend request, but he was hoping to see her at the club tonight.
âJosh, you good?â Jon asked
âOh yeah, Iâm good... Just scrolling through IG,â Jey said.
âOh, alright...â Jon said as the car stopped in front of the club, where the line stretched around the corner. The twins exited and were greeted by security, who led them directly to Charlotteâs VIP section. After greeting everyone, Jey saw the woman from Charlotteâs photo.
âDamn, sheâs even more beautiful in person...â Jey thought to himself.
Charlotte watched as Jey stared at Sharmela, and she smiled.
âJEY!â Charlotte yelled over the music.
Jey snapped out of his daze and smiled, âWhatâs up, Queen?â
âI want you to meet my make-up artist, Sharmela,â Charlotte said as she moved out of the way.
Sharmela looked up from where she was sitting and smiled.
âHey!â Sharmela said as she sipped on her vodka and cranberry.
