in focus: jett has been running since he was eighteen, driven by fear of what followed on his heels and what darkness lived in his veins. this stray-dog mentality that there’s no where safe to rest has only started to subside in the last year since arriving in cardinal hill. still, the number of masks he’s worn along the way have made his true identity difficult to discern, even for himself. there’s a sense of restlessness about him, a constant looking over his shoulder, a need to poke at the boundaries to make sure they won’t hold him fast. he’s quick to start a debate on a myriad of topics just to figure out where he truly lands on the subject. this makes him come off as an asshole, a devil’s advocate, but it’s intrinsic to him figuring out who he is beyond the survival instincts, behind the vaporous facade. 

films are a huge comfort to him. the scripts never change, and he’s seen so many that he can figure out the ending long before the story’s over. ( yet another annoying habit. ) beyond the stories themselves, he’s drawn to cinematography, the shot, the focus. capturing the perfect perspective with a rich atmosphere. unfortunately, he is known for turning this critical eye on himself & the world around him. he tries not to be negative, and redirects by changing the atmosphere. it can feel jarring to those who don’t know him well, but those that do likely understand why he does it — to pull himself out of whatever toxic thoughts are blooming in his brain.

originally from australia, his accent has stuck despite years of trying to unlearn it.

he lives in a camper in the trailer park, unwilling to give up mobility and settle down in an apartment. 

reels has become a safe haven for him. his inner sanctum within cardinal hill. because of his affinity for films and the care he takes in procuring and taking care of their archive, he often hosts midnight premiers for his close friends, playing more obscure or very old titles.

he’s been saving up to purchase his own camera, but he’s a ways off. that doesn’t keep him from digesting everything he can about cinematography. he’s often composing shots and scribbling screenplays in the booth while at work.

a very inexperienced magic user.

having spent most of his life sleeping under the stars or traveling through the wilderness, he loves camping and the woods. he can often be caught swimming at blue holes in the state park, hiking, or even just lying on top of his camper watching the sky.

he has a gray tabby cat named ruckus, and she’s been his companion for nearly ten years.

film junkies for life ! a close friend that cares as much about cinematography as jett as come to. they frequent the drive-in, hang out in the booth during premiers, throw release parties & private showings for their friends ( or just for themselves ) — they might even be plotting a film, brainstorming into the early hours of the morning.

changeover cue ! someone that jett has confided in about his secret. this person would be incredibly close to him and likely a mentor-type — not necessarily older but more experienced in the use of magic. jett relies on them as he embarks on the journey toward understanding his own powers and feeling out who he is as a witch.
