DC Pride Highlights 2026, Jess Chambers, Day 17 of 30
Nonbinary, debuted and confirmed queer on December 20th, 2020, in DC’s Very Merry Multiverse
Jess Chambers, AKA Kid Quick, is from Earth 11, which is essentially a genderbent version of the main universe. They are a member of Teen Justice, and nibling to their universe’s Jesse Chambers (who is that universes Flash). They, just like their aunt, use a formula to access the speed force, as well as a counter-formula.
Jess played a role in the Future State event, a storyline showing a possible future. They traveled from their home universe to Earth 0, initially just to warn them, but in the end deciding to stay behind and help. Jess was The Flash in this storyline. They also had a relationship with Aquawoman (Andrina “Andy” Curry).
Jess is casual genderqueer representation, something rarely shown in such mainstream media. Even if they’re not in the main canon universe, we still can say that, somewhere, there is a nonbinary Flash.
i've said this over the course of various fragmented posts after reading lemire jsa issues but the jesse/rick relationship drama could be worthwhile if they actually committed to them having a real, thorny problem. "you left me behind during absolute power" first of all ok when did that happen. second of all well i think that's stupid because a) out of universe that event meant nothing and no one remembers it and b) in universe it was incredibly chaotic and people were getting amazoed left and right. if it was presented better maybe i would believe it but as it is i don't. not even a little.
you know what i would believe would be causing problems for them? the fact that their baby totally disappeared. have the problem between them be that one of them wants to find him and one of them doesn't, maybe because they've made peace with him being gone, maybe because it feels like he never really existed, maybe because one of them is just relieved they don't have to have a baby in their life anymore. i don't even have strong feelings on which one does which because i think you could make an argument for either. i like their relationship as evidenced by me writing mountains of polyamory fic that includes it but it was always on somewhat shaky ground due to the majority of the actual relationship-building happening off-page. there was absolutely a way to write a compelling narrative about tension between them that wasn't the biggest Nothing since everything else in lemire's jsa.
