This month we're featuring the Norwegian Forest Cat

The Norwegian Forest cat is a very large, very fluffy feline that is well adapted to the cold climates where they are most popular. History suggests its ancestors sailed with the Vikings, and share a similar long-haired genetic history with modern-day Persians and Turkish Angoras. The German Wirehaired Pointer, otherwise known as the Deutsch Drahthaar, is a loyal and energetic gundog known for it's rough and rugged coat. The coat is designed for outdoor activity because it insulates against weather and protects against thorns and brambles. Although closely related to the German Shorthair Pointer, this is not simply a wirehaired variant. Happy May everyone! This month we're celebrating the Drever!

The Drever is a Swedish dog breed acquired from Germany in 1910 and crafted specifically for deer hunting. The short legs were chosen on purpose to keep the Drever near the ground for scenting and to keep them from moving too fast toward the prey, as the Roe deer they help hunt are skittish and must be approached carefully. The name was chosen by a newspaper contest in 1947 and is derived from the Swedish word 'drev' which describes the type of hunt when the prey is driven toward the hunter. These are strong, hardworking dogs, beloved by their hunting companions, and rarely found as companion pets.

This month we are celebrating the Australian Mist cat!

The Australian Mist or Spotted Mist is a breed that hails from the great Down Under. It was crafted by breeding tabby cats with Abyssinian and Balinese varieties. Its no April Fool! This month we're celebrating the Volpino Italiano! A cousin of the Pomeranian from renaissance Italy!

The Volpino Italiano is a Spitz-type dog historically known for being small but but standing tall. Depicted by painters as early as the 1502, small white dogs of the type were common through Italy and used as guard dogs. The modern version of the Volpino is a result of restorative breeding and an attempt to save the breed from near extinction in the 1960s. The breed continues to grow especially in its native homeland where yearly registrations to dog clubs averaged around 160 in 2019.

The Tonkinese cat bears a strong resemblance to the Siamese and Burmese cat varieties, a trait that for a long time almost destroyed it. Native to Malaysia, the breed was folded into the similar breeds as variants for many years until a concerted effort of crossbreeding Siamese and Burmese to bring back Tonkinese traits saw the original breed established in 2001. The Toy Poodle is the smallest of the three Poodle sizes! Unlike the larger sizes which were still used for work, the Toy was specifically honed to be a companion pet! The domestic cat or house cat, "felis catus," is the only truly domesticated cat species currently on earth. They were domesticated in 7500 BC, and have lived alongside humans as mousers, companions, and friends ever since. While they are social creatures, they are solitary hunters known for their lithe flexible bodies and retractable claws. Cats are very intelligent creatures, with cognition comparable to a young human child. They are proficient in problem solving, learn by observation and adapt to any scenario, which is one reason why they have endured so wonderfully for thousands of years.
