Seaweed, sesame, scallions, cilantro, and chili bring color and freshness. Each bowl becomes a delicious, nourishing creation that leaves me full yet light. And with the staff’s warmth and enthusiasm, it’s a place I’ll always want to return to.

Crab Tapioca Noodles (Bánh Canh Cua) in Saigon is seriously a must-try! Especially at Thu Vân on Tạ Quang Bửu, District 8 – you get a huge bowl full of toppings for just 40k VND (~$1.5). Such a steal!

The broth is thick, glossy, super fragrant with crab, and has that eye-catching reddish-orange color (yep, that’s from annatto oil mixed with crab roe). It’s rich, flavorful, and so comforting.

The noodles? Soft, chewy, soaking up all that savory goodness. And the toppings are insane: fresh sweet crab meat, chunks of ghẹ (swimming crab), slices of juicy BBQ pork, quail eggs, pork leg, lean pork… all packed in one bowl.

What makes it fun is the extras – silky pork blood cubes, and especially the quẩy (Chinese fried dough sticks). You get both crunchy quẩy (super crispy bite) and soft quẩy (soaked in broth, chewy and flavorful). Some bowls even come with straw mushrooms for that extra umami kick.

This sushi stands out with its unique outer layer of savory fish cake. On top, it’s dressed in a colorful mix of green peas, sweet corn, and juicy diced mango. Each bite blends the natural sweetness of corn and mango with the tender richness of fish cake. Pickled pink ginger on the side refreshes the palate, balancing the flavors perfectly. Not only delicious, but this sushi also leaves you satisfyingly full, making it truly unforgettable.

The sesame roast chicken at BigC/GO! is truly a dish worth trying. The chicken meat is firm, juicy, and crispy, never mushy. Its glossy sesame sauce coats every piece, striking the perfect balance of savory and sweet, soaking deep into the meat while the toasted sesame adds a nutty aroma that lingers. The sauce is plentiful yet light, shiny but not greasy, delivering a bold, full-bodied flavor in every bite. One portion comes at a very reasonable price, enough for two people to enjoy a hearty meal that’s both economical and satisfying. This is the kind of flavor you’ll remember long after the very first taste.
