Regulus grabs James’ shirt when he falls asleep, James finds it extremely endearing; one day he asks about it and Regulus tells him it’s a habit he developed since he was a kid because he’d fall asleep with Sirius and he’d wake up alone and scared at the house, so by doing that, he wouldn’t leave.

James, from that day on, never leaves his side when they sleep and waits until Regulus wakes up to kiss him and get up, and eventually, after years together, one day Reg stops doing it, and James cries in silence because his boyfriend finally believes and knows that he won’t wake up alone anymore.

James sobbing in Regulus' arms for the very first time and Regulus thinking he's doing the worst job ever at comforting him because he isn't speaking but this is exactly what James needed for so long. To just be held as he let it all out, not having someone in his ear telling him it will get better, that he's strong. Regulus silence comforts him more than words ever could, Regulus arms wrapped around him comforts him more than the distractions he'd force himself into ever would.

James potter never cried in front of people. Well tears of happiness maybe but never cried out of sorrow. Even Sirius never saw him cry...until the day he told James that Regulus Black was dead.

It's post-jegulus dark mark break up, and Regulus starts transforming into his cat animagus almost nightly to escape the nightmare that is both his dreams and life.

One day he falls asleep in his wander around the halls and wakes up to find himself curled up next to a fire in James's lap. His immediate instinct is to leave. He doesn't deserve the affection. But the warmth warmed his bones in a way he hadn't been able to be since they broke up, and the cat mind had always been more selfish in it's deeds....

So he stays and just soaks in the warmth and affection he knows he doesn't deserve and will never have again, savouring every single moment.

Unkownst to Regulus, James knew it was him.

Sirius always hates the people James dates. They’re always unkind, inconsiderate, and just not good enough for his best friend.

So when James starts sneaking out of the dorm to see Regulus every night, Sirius gets a little worried. Not confused, though. To Sirius, it’s not really a surprise that James would date Regulus. Because Sirius always hates the people James dates.
