From #thejeffersons #georgejefferson (played by #shermanhemsley who was gay irl ) gets a call from Eddie Stokes his army buddy who played pranks on each other is in town.
He goes to visit only to find Eddie is now Edi (played by cis actress #veronicaredd ). George thinks its a prank, but it isn't. First he guesses Edi is #gay which repulsed him (in real life Sherman was gay), then a #crossdresser. This is may be the earliest tv character to be explicitly played as #trans tho the term isn't used.
Despite his bout of transphobia the episode ends happily with George stating they are friends and using her new name
