On the way back over Ophir Pass there was a tow truck blocking the trail. The tow truck operator said a guy in a small SUV lost his brakes and went over the edge. The car didn’t roll, so he walked away with scratches. People think SUVs are off-road vehicles and it simply isn’t true. They don’t have the clearance, articulation or protection from skid plates. After Yankee Boy we headed back to Telluride via Imogene. Little trail damage (stabilizer shock lost a retaining bolt, luckily we carry a variety of bolt sizes for issues like this). Went to the overlook at the top. Hadn’t gone there before. The sun was hitting the mountains just right.
