You really should read the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) (what Trump calls a peace deal, it isn't) to cut through all the BS about it. It's a very short, very easy read. The US gives up basically everything for almost nothing in return.
Here's a summary of the 14 points anyway. Keep in mind...
* Israel did not sign this, but the peace depends on their cooperation because...
* Lebanon is under Iran's protection.
* We had a much better deal with Iran in 2015, the JCPOA, which the Republicans hated and Trump tore up in 2018 leading directly to Iran enriching uranium for a weapon; his preferred reason for the war.
* The US attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations about these subjects.
1. Iran and the US and their allies stop fighting and won't make threats or start fighting again. This includes Lebanon. [Trump keeps making threats, Israel and Lebanon keep fighting on and off, jeopardizing the peace process.]
2. Iran and the US respect each other’s sovereignty and territory and refrain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs. [No more talk of regime change or taking Karg Island.]
3. Iran and the US have 60 days to work out a permanent plan, extendable if they both agree. [This is wildly unrealistic. The JCPOA took 20 months.]
4. The US will pull back from Iran and end its blockade. Traffic through the strait will go back to pre-war levels. [Return to status quo.]
5. Iran won't charge fees to use the strait for 60 days. Iran and Oman will talk about the future of the strait. [This wasn't even on the table before the war. Iran could start charging fees again.]
6. The US and regional partners will raise at least $300 billion for the reconstruction of Iran. [War reparations by any other name. Trump claims the US won't pay for it, but he always says that. My guess is the US will pay for it, but launder the money so it looks like our Gulf State allies are paying. There's also that mysterious oil money the US stole from Venezuela still unaccounted for.] All required licenses, waivers and permissions needed for the relevant financial transactions will be granted by the US. [This is a really big deal for Iran because it gets them back into the global financial system.]
7. The US will get rid of all sanctions on Iran. [The US just gave up the world's leverage on Iran, Iran gave up nothing.]
8. Iran pinky swears not to make a nuke. [They already did that before the war.] Their enriched nuclear material will, at minimum, be diluted under supervision. [But they can still keep it, and the ability to make more.] Everything else about Iran's nuclear program is negotiable. [Trump made a big deal about stopping Iran from having a nuclear weapon (realistically they were 10-20 years away) and this is the best he got.]
9. The US and Iran will maintain the status quo. Iran keeps its nuclear program. [⁉️] The US won't impose new sanctions or troop build ups.
10. Until sanctions are lifted, the US will let Iran export oil, get insurance, and use banks. [Iran can make money again. Another point of leverage on Iran given up.]
11. The US will give Iran its frozen assets back. [About $30 billion. This is on top of the $300 billion in reparations. This is what the Republicans hated about Obama's deal; now they're giving it away, and more, for free .]
12. Iran and the US will work out a system to monitor this agreement and the final deal. [That should have been in the MOA. A deal with no way to monitor nor enforce it is almost worthless.]
13. Iran and the US will negotiate a final deal as long as this agreement holds. [It's not holding so Iran keeps walking out.]
14. The UN Security Council will sign the final deal. [The US can't tell the UNSC what to do. UNSC votes are unanimous. China or Russia could sink the whole thing.]
