I think I am falling in love with this Cole Porter tune and I had it in my heart tonight because I feel that it really would be nice to come home to a peaceful harmonious place such as here in Cleopatras Needle where love is just flowing through the energy of music and you have no choice but to let your spirit free and improv because you get the heart to simply try. #music #musicdaily #musicians #cleopatrasneedle #nyc #nymusic #coleporter #sarahvaughan #jazz #jazzcover #vocaljazz #improv #selfportrait #love #loveheals #harmonious #singing #iheartmusic #goodvibes #singersongwriter #indieartist #stephaniejnote

With over 500 album covers created in his 15 year career at Blue Note Records, Reid Miles is most definitely a name you should know when it comes to design & jazz.
His work for Blue Note Records in the 50′s and 60′s has designers of today dubbing him “a genius, ahead of his time” in regards to his treatment of typography. He was known to take it apart, flip it around, stretch it and create something fresh and new in every design. It was his iconic style that gave gave Blue Note a hip modern identity.
When you look at a Miles cover, you feel like you are looking at the jazz itself, personified. His covers “sound like [they know] what is in store for the listener” - Felix Cromey, Blue Note: The Cover Art.
Whether it is the explosion of colour, the typography literally jumping from the cover or the clever photography, Miles has created the look and feel of jazz in his images and cover work. Surprisingly, he was known not to personally enjoy jazz. He believed this allowed him to step back from his work and truly analyse whether is was a great cover.
He worked fast and on small budgets (around $50 a cover), claiming the record label believed they had something modern that went with the music but he felt he had thrown it together within the time and used a few colours to speed up the design process.
Each of his designs are modern, exciting and pull the viewer in. The typography always seems to grab you whether its torn apart, stacked playfully on top of itself or blown up you can’t see anything else on the page. Add an unexpected splash of colour and you have yourself the spirit of the exact sound within the album.
