Song Review: Drive-By Truckers - “Quarantine Together”

Supposing “Quarantine Together” isn’t fiction - but it most probably is - Patterson Hood saw a smart-looking face and decided to make a caronavirus pass.

We might as well quarantine together/as be miserable alone/so if you’ll come on over to my place/I promise you I will stay/six feet away, Hood and his fellow Drive-By Truckers sing on their new single.

Recorded separately at one another’s homes, this is a country-folk ditty in the vein of Harvest-era Neil Young with a bit of twang, a bit of banjo, a light touch of brushed drums and a bit of dark humor.

What if we acclimate/and call this isolation a date/maybe enough time could go by/we could be each other’s mistake

Released just as states are lifting stay-at-home orders, “Quarantine Together” is already becoming passé. But, with public health experts predicting a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, it’ll likely be relevant again in a few short weeks.

BOSTON— Voters in Massachusetts are deciding who advances to the November general election to run for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House and a slew of other offices.

One of the closest watched contests in Tuesday’s primary pits longtime incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano against Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley. If elected, she’d be the first black woman Massachusetts has sent to Congress.
