Muslim Girl Art Exhibit
With the semester winding down after multiple grueling finals, it brings me back to a good memory of attending a beautiful exhibit held at Douglass library. This exhibit, titled “Muslim Girl’s Exhibit on Influential Muslim Women,” featured huge posters of different Muslim women who have contributed to different fields in history, and those who still do currently. One featured poster was of Ibtihaj Muhammad, a Muslim fencer who has competed in the Olympics for the American team. I had met her previously at a Muslim girl event, and her story inspired me. I take fitness very seriously, and seeing a covered Muslim woman professionally compete was extremely inspiring to me.
I write about this event now, because during finals, all I feel like doing is giving up, especially since all my classes are heavy in science and math. Remembering the great accomplishments of these women, especially as a Muslim myself, reminds me that things seem hard now, but it won’t all be hard forever. These sleepless nights and long hours of hard work and studying will pay off. My dream is to be looked upon as a role model, and as someone others would aspire to be like. I remind myself and everyone else taking finals that it’ll only get better. I love exhibits like the one I attended, because reading about women’s accomplishments is truly a beautiful thing. It connects us all in a graceful way.
I only hope that this semester ends on a positive note, and that I can one day be part of such an amazing exhibit myself.
