The Adventure of Lil Debbies Part 1 || Jasmine & Astrid
If there was a face next to the word “goodie-two-shoes” in the dictionary, chances are it could have very well been Astrid’s. Ever since the girl was fourteen, she worked hard to stay in line. She rarely ever swore, got good grades (but not too good to get noticed from them), went straight home after school let out, and never, ever, broke the rules. She played it safe not daring to lose the amazing family that had fallen into her lap, which is why she was nervous to say the least when she had wandered into the church on the night of the lock in during the full moon as per requested by Damien. Sure, for the most part almost everyone assumed she was human, but as she moved through the crowd fidgeting nervously with the ends of her hair, she couldn’t help but feel like she stood out like a sore thumb. Astrid had been raised by a fairly religious family. But, the Reyes had stopped taking her to masses like this when they had discovered what she was, because, the facts were, she didn’t belong here- in a room full of people who condemned her very existence.
But, it will be fun, She reminded herself, wanting to do this little act of rebellion if nothing else. Just get in and get out. Humming a little hymn under her breath, Astrid hoped that she at least partially fit in as she wandered over towards the snack table, giving people littles nods as she went. Glancing side to side, she made sure no one was watching and that’s when she did it. She grabbed a slice of pie onto a paper plate, flipped open the box of lil debbies, and made room for the pie snug beside them before flipping the box closed, scooping the entire thing into her arms and speed walking towards the back exit. She heard someone calling after her, probably confused as to why the girl cleaned off the snack table and was making a mad dash towards the door during a lock in no less. But, instead of sticking around to come up with some dumb excuse, she unlocked the door, kicking it open and beginning to run.
Plowing across the front grounds, Astrid waved her free hand like a made woman as she made her way to where Jasmine was parked across the street in the ‘getaway’ car that was Jasmine’s volkswagen convertible. Tossing the snack cakes in the back seat, Astrid hopped over the door into the passenger seat and started to yell, “Drive, drive, drive!” as one of the chaplin’s ran after them yelling for them to get back inside the church. A laugh leaving her lips as the realization set in that she had just done that.
