1) they function so well as a team especially in group projects or whenever they hang out outside of school: daria sits there reading or writing while jane sketches. their hobbies blend together in the most natural way. not to mention their similar mindset and sense of humor which is kind of crucial. even when they disagree they get over it so fast because saving their friendship is like top priority at any cost

2) daria is in love with trent because he’s literally the male version of jane lol. this theory makes perfect sense in my head. and jane is so chill about daria crushing on her brother she even tries to play matchmaker because she likes the idea of daria becoming part of the family (she just doesn’t realize how else that could go)

3) i’m obsessed with the idea that tom is basically a test of their strong female bond through the presence of a guy. like how literary characters get tested by love or money. here it’s something similar which only proves that their relationship can survive pretty much anything no matter how messy it looks at first

4) and after all that drama with tom jane goes to that camp where she has her gay awakening thanks to that girl-artist who immediately picks up the vibe. and when jane comes back the first thing she wants to do is tell daria before it all gets too awkward

5) they study in the same city after graduation… in boston (yeah it’s a bit late for a boston marriage but let’s keep that detail between us). which means they only get closer as they continue their friendship outside of high school. and daria enters college having ended things with tom for good

6) it’s hard to cram the beauty of their dynamic into one post but i love the fact that they’re always on the same wavelength. and i love how they never hide how much they value each other. even calm detached daria loses her composure every time jane gets a new boy (and it’s not just tom!!! there was that runner guy and in season one at brittany’s party… it keeps happening)

7) and of course there are all those little hints that to me are way more than simple fanservice. when they joke about how there are already tons of rumors about them or when jane says she can draw daria naked from memory or that wedding-outfit illustration. it’s cute it works it fits so well. every joke has a grain of truth
