Fandom: Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling
Relationship: Hermione Granger/James Potter
Words: 207,416
Chapters: 70/70
Published: 2019-09-08
Author summary:
No one imagined that Hermione Black's mere existence would lead to the Dark Lord's defeat. But nothing is impossible, especially in the days of the Marauders. Marauders Era AU.
My thoughts:
Not the kind of Potter/Hermione I usually read, but MY GODS, this was sooo good, yet soooo long omfg. It took me a while to read, and I would definitely read it again, because I wasn't expecting to like this pairing, but I find myself pleasantly surprised. SameAge AU is my fourth favorite child, and I like it very much.
Ending quote:
"Should we make another one, princess?" James whispered into her ear, looking as attractive as ever when he leaned back to see her reaction. She was about to respond when a loud complaint from Sirius came their way. "Oi! That's my little sister you're talking to!" Peter grimaced at her twin. "I'm pretty sure you know how Harry was born." "And Hermione is his wife," Remus added in his teacher tone, ever the voice of reason that they all still respected. Hermione merely huffed. "A two minutes difference doesn't make you older than me, Sirius!"
“He wanted to say something clever, something romantic, something brilliant and witty, something to win her over...” ~ Chapter 21 is live at last! Keep reading for a peek...
It was as she passed by a tattered tapestry of what looked to be two of the founders in the midst of some historical battle that the hall cleared. Her gaze caught and lingered on the lightly shifting threads as she passed. So she was completely unprepared to collide into a broad wall of muscle, let alone swept off her feet and twirled in the air before she could cast a reflexive curse.
"Hermione! I've been looking everywhere for you!" James's face was suddenly level with hers, grin perfect and brilliant as ever, eyes luminous with his victory.
Hermione couldn't help but refelct his excitement as she returned his smile. "You did it! I knew you would..." It seemed only natural to wrap her arms around his neck and draw their bodies even closer. They were still friends after all, safely in the role she had given her savior.
"Only because of you," James confessed as he turned to bury his nose in her curls and sighed.
Her hand came to caress his dirty cheek. "You haven't showered yet, have you?"
His grin widened. "Trying to tell me I smell?" At her scrunched nose he laughed. "I haven't had time. They were trying to pour Firewhiskey down my throat the moment we came in and it was everything I could do to get away from Padfoot."
Hermione scuffed the toe of her shoe over the floor and his hand at her hip flexed, then gently squeezed as she muttered, "I don't want you to miss your party."
He shook his head, grin softening as the light in his eyes burned brighter. "I had to come find you first. I'm not drinking one lick of that rubbish unless you're right next to me."
"I can't go into that common room, James!" She gasped at the traitorous thought, even as some small part of her yearned desperately to accept. Her fingers brushed the unkempt hair at the back of his neck and he shuddered.
James reached to tuck a stray curl behind her ear, smile growing at the challenge. "Anyone has anything to say about it they can go to hell, I say. It's our party, Mione." He lifted his chin. "And I'm making sure everyone knows it."
a few author notes for the curious:
- If you've read the original FF.net version of this: This chapter ends quite differently with good reason. I was never honestly satisfied with my standing stones and Hermione's incident with D trying to separate them, nor the aftermath. Events will still play out close enough that we won't lose all our story beats, but get ready for some deviations going forward.
- My ultimate goal for ADSM is to keep a lighter tone than my other Hermione series: Killing Me Softly. I want this to be a somewhat safer space (because come on, there'll be plenty of risk and danger for our loves ahead), a space for Hermione to heal from her trauma of the war, and allow her to come fully into her own with love and support with her found family. We're going for all the feels here, just like James, because our girl deserves it, and our boys do too, for that matter.
- I have a personal goal to finish all my unfinished fics this year. I think I can at the least finish this, and The Lost Witch, along with a couple of my shorter fics. Wish me luck! And know that I read every one of your reviews, and they are a huge reason I have come back and will never abandon this fic. That's a promise, and I always keep my word... eventually ;) Thank you for reading, friends.

🌹🌹🌹 I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but I really love your harry potter stories!!
Thank you so much!!
For context: Leta is Hermione, but James does not yet know her name is actually Hermione 😉
“I'm allergic!” she exclaimed and James’ heart dropped into his stomach.
He surged forward and helped her pull the soiled robes off.
“Fuck. Padfoot, you're such a fucking idiot,” he hissed as he tossed her robes away.
Leta made a noise of distress. “It soaked through.”
“Fuck!”
James stripped off his own robes. Her tie was tossed aside and then she was undoing her school blouse. James’ stomach twisted at the red and irritated skin that was revealed. He pressed his robes against her skin and tried to mop up the excess liquid.
Leta hissed. “The fabric. It's too rough.”
James dropped his robes and undid his tie. He pulled his shirt over his head and the two of them pressed it against her irritated skin.
“I know a spell that will help.”
She nodded quickly. James fumbled for his wand and cast the spell his mother taught him for the rashes he used to get when he went and played in the grass fields surrounding Tetwell Town.
Leta released a breath of relief.
“Better?”
She nodded and lowered the fabric. A lace white bra was revealed and for the first time, James realised that she was half naked in front of him. He almost swallowed his tongue as he took in her soft, tanned skin. She had beauty marks on her chest and shoulders. One on her waist that he wanted to taste. Christ, he could see her nipples through her lace bra.
She looked up at him. “Thanks,” she said weakly, cheeks pink.
“Don't thank me. My best friend is an idiot.”
“He has a unique way of showing he cares,” she allowed.
James snorted. “That's putting it extremely kindly.” James glanced down at her chest again before looking away as he ran a hand through his hair. “Let me transfigure you something to wear. You can go to the hospital wing and get that checked out.”
“Oh, I'll be fine.” She offered him his shirt and he took it, face hot.
The door opened suddenly.
James’ head whipped around and felt his stomach drop at the gasps of students beyond the door.
“Mr. Potter!” Professor Slughorn exclaimed. “And Miss Lestrange? My word!”
James stepped in front of Leta to block her from view.
“Put your clothes on! Alright. Alright! Go on then! Back to class! I think you've all seen enough.”
“Professor, this isn't what it looks like,” James insisted.
Professor Slughorn raised his eyebrows. “I think it's quite clear what this is. Quite clear!”
James shrugged on his shirt, hearing Leta do the same behind him. She pushed his robes into his hand and the two of them exited out into the hallway. The students were still dispersing. They whispered and giggled loudly at the sight of the two of them.
James glanced over at Leta and winced. Her face and neck were flushed from the potion and her hair was anything but its usual perfect coils. She looked like she'd been getting up to no good in that closet with him.
Merlin, what a mess.
