Do you have any headcanons about how mer and Steve interact on a normal day?
I think once their story arc is over and they’re not worried about things they’d live a really fun life, like, they’d move for starters! At the end of the series I want them to go live in a house near Lake Michigan or something, somewhere on the water, but I also think maybe they’d travel?? Like I know it might sound silly but Steve needs to get out of that town and mer has seen the world in the oceans but not the human world, there is so so much for her to discover, so maybe for a while they’d just go backpacking! Like, Steve sells everything he has so they can just leave and be together all over the world for a year or two, so they can be in love in every country, and then they’d go wherever Robin is or Dustin and get a house together with a pool (or not), and like. Maybe they could be that cute lifeguard couple or something while Steve gets his teaching qualifications or teaches the kids how to swim and nobody mentions the shiny swimming girl they see every other week in the city pool
as far as their daily interactions go, I think over time mer’s ability to communicate with her English will improve, but that it’ll be like, she doesn’t speak as much as Steve would expect her to once she does, because she’s learned to communicate with him through touch and looks! So they spend a lot of time looking at each other having silent back and forths that annoy some people and endear others. She learns how to make his coffee the way he likes it but maybe doesn’t obey that it’s a morning drink, so Steve ends up caffeinated late at night and they don’t really acknowledge that it’s late, they just spend that extra time together and walk around tired. they nap together a lot, just to be together, and they spend time hugging too much! Not much talking, and in random places, like, if mer wants a hug in the grocery store then Steve doesn’t really care if they’re busy he just gets her under his arm and keeps on pushing the kart. And Steve starts to get bitchier when they’ve been together a while because he knows she’ll know it’s not gonna put her in danger for him to be annoyed. He’s always understanding of her in the au, and has more patience with her than he actually tends to have, so maybe that starts to fade a touch (never when it’s important) and she really likes it, likes winding him up, and loves lying to him to annoy him
