His voice is soft and calm. Like hot chocolate, but in a controlled manner. You can tell he's being gentle on purpose. Sending bait out to lure you close. He offers his badge, his name, a full introduction, and when you come closer to shake his hand and introduce yourself too, you can feel the warmth radiating from his protective, cage-like car. It's tempting.

You get in.

"Where am I taking you?"

You gave this man- this cop- your home address. Now you're on the way home. Fast, safe, warm. The radio plays quietly, and you can tell the man next to you- Dean- is trying so hard to stay composed and not swaggle his head to the tune. You two talk. You talk a lot. Hobbies, friends, family, place of work. The conversation is mainly about you. You hardly even notice.

But what you do notice is the bridge he drives you over. The bridge that's on the route to your house.

So, lets say you get kidnapped by one of the members of the Desert crew, sucks right? Then BOOM you notice one of them is ur family member, like uncle Dean what are you doing here?? 😭 (just as a random example)

But basically, what would happen if you, as a captive find out ur related to one of the guys? I mean, do they have rules is something like that happends? Like family is off limits? Do you get set free or do you still have to fend for ur life anyway?

I'm gonna follow your example and lead with Dean, because I love him, I hardly talk about him, and he makes me HARD.

Firstly- I think, family or not, you would still be a valid target. It's easy to ask the group NOT to harm you, but that's up to them personally to decide. And the fact that Derek is a dumbass who didn't bring a mask makes this complicated, as you've now seen his face. You'd pretty much have to enter a witness protection program if you were allowed to leave.

Carrying on, I feel like you wouldn't be the first to recognize anyone. There's just too much going on to notice familiar build or demeanor- that is, until you glance up and see the group leader staring daggers into you. By the time y'all are on your feet and running, Jack has a singular goal: make sure your ass doesn't get caught. By anyone else, anyway. Next thing you know, you're being cornered by the guy in the dog mask with his hands up defensively. Shushing you, trying to calm you down, treating you like the baby his sibling had him babysit more than enough times.

Knowing Dean and what I've previously written about him, he's a real sly motherfucker. He'll lift his mask for you, come in for a surrounding hug, tell you it's gonna be alright and to just stay by him, insist he's only out here because he knew you were gonna be and he came to save you. Your hero uncle, now really, truly your hero! And now that he's found you it's time to go, right?

You would be practically untouchable by the other hunters. Jack, the head of this whole gig, is out here protecting you. For some reason, Jack keeps a real tight hand on you, and that alone is enough to detour attention above them asking to share the leftovers. Most of the time he just has you wait by his car, but as it's FAR too hot out and too dangerous to simply linger, the only choice is keeping you close.

And that means you get to witness this man in full. He cares not that you're watching now. He's here to save you, but, oh, honey, it's not that easy. They won't let y'all just leave... He's gotta play his part. Using those spiked knuckles to drive holes into peoples flesh, pulling hair and stabbing ribs and punching faces- removing clothes. It's okay, honey, you're still safe. If he can do all this to an innocent, do you know how far he'd go to protect you? It doesn't matter what you've seen him do or how much you've seen of him, now. All that matters is you're alive, you're at home, and he still has your number.

Also I genuinely LOOOOOVE the way you wrote Dean btw, its perfect and it honestly makes him even scarier. That despite all the cruel things hes done he can still be just like you and me, caring and thoughtful of others yk? That in the end, he's also human.. not just some monster without any humanity.

And- that is EXACTLY the vibe he gives me. Dean is a scary ass guy, and it’s because he has the capability to be normal. To be a hero, even. It’s like whenever you log on to enjoy your horrorporn. You still log off and see your family and go to work. It doesn’t follow you, you still have a life to live outside your interests… and so does he.

His humanity is what makes him scary. He’s not a monster, he’s no boogeyman, he’s just a guy, like you and me.

He’s a friend, a brother, an officer, a son, a neighbor, a regular customer, and now- a father. 💖 We’ve seen what he’s like when you’re nothing to him. When you’re a toy to be tossed around and slit open to be fucked. He’s evil, vicious, cruel, sick.

He seems so interesting! And im curious about ur thoughts on him (　ﾟ 3ﾟ)

FDKGHKJSD NO BUT IM LITERALLY SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS ONE. I LOVE JACK, HE'S SO GROSSLY SPECIAL TO ME.

So... Jack. Obviously the assigned "leader" of the desert group, and I don't think that's for no reason. It's not because he's the coolest of everybody, it's because he's been there the longest, thus is the organizer, the planner, the man behind the mission- but not even that is the whole of it. Jack, or, Dean, is a cop and knows how to command respect and direct high emotion. Given Derek's respect for him, it's more than likely the two have history regarding that kind of redirection, as we know Derek is very explosive and doesn't get along with the others.

Dean is a cop. A corrupt one, shocker, who regularly covers things up for the right price. However... I'm not going to assume that's all he is, because there's often no bribes great enough to risk his job. He became a cop because he wanted to save people from people like him. There's some kind of satisfaction that comes from catching these bastards. Catching people who wish they were as bad as he is. Catching people who try to be. But, not just that- he's the good guy when he does. He loves being in full control of his morality, being able to be an actual superhero or a literal slasher villain whenever the time deems appropriate.

I don't think he started out like that, though. I think he's been in the force for so long that it just... developed. He's seen the worst, handled the worst, and is consistently put through stupid shit. Drunk, aggressive people who don't want to leave an establishment, fuckin' hippies who don't make sense, exes who "blacked out" and did something stupid over their past relationship, stupid teens who only want to argue and point fingers, lord forbid he come across one of those ACAB pussies... But then there's the other side of that coin. Having to hold back parents who just found their child dead. Having to call in several other troopers to lure someone back from the edge of a bridge. Getting information from a frozen victim who was forced to take a life to save their own. In those moments, he forgets himself entirely. He exists only for them and what they need, and what he needs to get the job done. Although, when regarding troublemakers, Dean does purposely, subtly provoke them, I feel. He loves a good fight, and even more a good chase. Some would say he's too aggressive with the detainees, but he always insists it was well-deserved. Not sure how being slammed into the cruiser and having the door shut on their legs is deserved for drinking while driving, but I digress...

He's charismatic, that's something that comes naturally. He is also naturally kind, I believe. But his kindness is conditional. He can "turn it off," so to speak. I believe Dean can be EXCELLENT company. A jokester, a real firm dad-type, has simple hobbies, is kind of a dork, has a snort to his laugh, takes very good care of the things and people he cares about. When just a person, he's like any other. Goes home and watches his favorite shows, maybe has a game he plays or bets on, maybe has a dog he gives side-pats as affection. He loves his job. He loves being the guiding hand, the stern fist, the warm embrace, the "bad cop," he loves it. Helping people is a feeling like no other, and he does it a hell of a lot- which is why those vacations he takes are easy to justify to himself. He does a good job! He saves a lot of people a lot of stress on the daily, and occasionally lives! Doesn't he deserve to be selfish? What is it, once a year? Doesn't he deserve this treat?
