Okay, so this comes under the same issues as when I was trying to ship Ben Solo and Mary Crawley in that I have no issue shipping Mary with anyone else but... I can't imagine Jack with anyone but Phryne. (What does this say about me? Women should have all the choices in the world but I love a man who is devoted to one woman and one woman only? Yeah, probably.)
So Mary and Jack are pretty contemporary and I could see a flirtation for sure if Jack was in London and if he was pissed off at Phryne for some reason. I think Jack and Tom would be good friends - perhaps that's how they meet. I think Mary would like him a lot and be drawn to his strong sense of honour and justice, but I think she would realise that he's in love with another woman and eventually back off.
If for some reason she ended up in Australia (fresh start after Matthew's death? running away to avoid Richard Carlisle and her past?) and Phryne wasn't in the picture at all, I could definitely see something happening between them. In fact, "Mary runs away to Australia" is a very fun AU idea. However, I think she might well end up in a situation not so dissimilar to Phryne, so how original would it actually be?
Sometimes fandoms take aspects of characters and exaggerate them to an unrealistic degree in fic, so it always amuses me to remember that fic!Jack's obsession with food - which is the sort of thing that could come across as just another example of that - isn't really an exaggeration at all

Buuuut as far as i recall, i haven't done anything like that before. It is possible there are other gif creators on here that might've captured those moments but i personally haven't (tho I totally should). I will make it a point to have that amongst my upcoming gifs 😌✋🏼
