⥠â John 'Bucky' Egan
Even though Bucky has somewhat of a reputation you find yourself surprised at the man. He didn't hold back on the flirting all evening â letting his hands wander just a little too low to be innocent, leaning just close enough that you could feel his mustache brush against your skin when he spoke. He was careless, jovial, having a good time and it felt so good to let yourself be swept up by him. You thought kissing Bucky would be just as enthusiastic as everything else with him but when it comes to kissing you heâs almost hesitant at first. He moves slowly, giving you enough time to pull away, before pressing his lips to yours in whatâs barely more than a peck. Once heâs sure you actually want to kiss him heâll immediately lean back in with all his suppressed passion⌠and lots of tongue.
⥠â Gale 'Buck' Cleven
Things with Gale moved slow â almost like molasses â but instead of being sickly sweet all he did was drive you insane. Thereâs a big difference between being respectful and skillfully dodging all of the hints youâre throwing at him. You donât want to be the one that has to make the first move but the more time you spend together the more it seems like youâll have to be the one that initiates things. There are several moments when you think that heâs finally going to kiss you but then he doesnât and you're just left confused. It happens a few more times before youâre so fed up that you decide to just meet him halfway when it seems like heâs leaning in. Gale doesnât pull away; he just pulls you closer and kisses you soft and slow. Real slow.Â
⥠â Marjorie 'Marge' Spencer
The first kiss you share with Marge is soft and careful and sleepy. The two of you had spent the day together as you often do, just walking around town and trying to pass the time before heading back to your apartment to make dinner. You could hear thunder grumble in the distance but it only added to the cozy atmosphere. She stayed over at your flat (not for the first time), bundled up next to you in your bed (also not for the first time) when she leaned over and pressed a quick kiss to your lips. It was barely more than a whisper, just a fleeting touch, but you could see her smile where her head laid inches from yours on your pillow. When you asked her to do that again in the morning so you knew it wasnât a dream she just giggled and leaned over again.Â
⥠â Curtis 'Curt' Biddick
Heâs just a little tipsy when he kisses you for the first time but Curtis fully plans to act extremely intoxicated should you slap him away. Itâs one thing to flirt day after day but to actually do something about it is a completely different thing altogether. Shy glances arenât invitations. Just because you bite your lips when you think he isnât looking doesnât mean you want to kiss him. But heâs so sure that you feel the same way about him â that you feel this fire between you too â that he simply has to try. You donât slap him away but you do laugh and he feels dejected for a second before you take his head into your hands and pull him closer again, pressing small kisses all over his face, only half-hitting his lips most of the time. Just pecking his lips over and over again in joy.
⥠â Robert 'Rosie' Rosenthal
Your first kiss with Rosie was a kiss goodbye. The two of you had grown quite close during the war, friendly letters turning flirty over the course of months but even after he came back to New York you never went past being friends. Pushing boundaries with late night calls and his hands low on your waist while you danced too close to smooth jazz, but neither of you took that final step towards something more. And then Robert told you he was going to leave for NĂźrnberg to help with the trials. Of course you let him go even if it broke your heart. He needed to help bring justice and you knew you'd wait for him if he wanted you to. So you put all your emotion into the kiss, all your yearning and devotion, and maybe the salt from your tears tainted the taste of him just a bit but from the way he held you it was clear to you that a lot of love letters were in your future.
⥠â Harry Crosby
You thought it was rather obvious that you were a little sweet on Harry but somehow the man must have missed that because he was almost trembling in fear when he confessed his love for you. At least you think he was confessing his love because he was so nervous that he was kind of just rambling about his feelings and also maybe airsickness so you decided to just shut him up. With your mouth. On his. In the end it only worked to make him speechless for a few moments before he went absolutely scarlet and stuttered out a âthank youâ. Bless him. Itâll take a few kisses to get more than a peck from him but best believe he can make you melt once he doesnât hold himself back any more.
⥠â Joseph 'Bubbles' Payne
The whole base was celebrating a successful mission, no losses, no major injuries. The entire rec hall was filled with tipsy flyboys and yours was among them. Well not technically yours, but you had called dibs on Bubbles Payne ages ago so every girl on base knew to keep their hands to themself. Or at least you thought they did before you saw one of the new nurses lean in close to him and whisper something into his ear that made him go bright red. You had half a mind to put salt in her coffee the next time you saw her but then he made his way over to you, a happy grin on his face. He said hello to the other girls at your table before he turned his full attention towards you and you tried your hardest not to swoon. âA little birdy told me a claim was staked recently.â Forget the salt, surely the base had some rat poison laying around. âAnd I just wanted to know if I may stake a claim in return, so to speak.â It wasnât a quick kiss but it wasnât wild, just the sweet press of his lips on yours before he whisked you off to dance.
⥠â James Douglass
Meeting James almost felt like fate. You were out dancing with your friends, he was out dancing with his⌠It was impossible not to notice him, smiling as his friends joked, holding a drink when one of them got whisked away to the dancefloor, downing the newly acquired drink with a charming grin. You told your friends about what you had seen and after that they all kept an eye on him. Every girl he turned down for a dance, every time he glanced in your direction, without fail one of your girlfriends would lean over and tell you about it. Until one of them started to excitedly slap your arm and whisper-shout that he was coming over. James introduced himself, he made polite small-talk, and then finally he asked you for a dance. Two songs later you had already made up your mind that you would see him again, so certain that there was a spark between you. So when somebody bumped into you and sent you stumbling against his chest then it was meant to be. Glancing up at him and seeing the worry in his eyes mix with the soft smile on his lips only affirmed things for you. Before you could second guess yourself you leaned up and pressed a quick kiss onto his lips. James kissed back, eager but not scandalously so, and you could feel yourself melt in his arms. It wasnât until somebody bumped into you again that you realized the two of you were so busy kissing that you had stopped dancing.
⥠â Everett Blakely
There were few things about Everett Blakely that werenât deeply infuriating. From the way he walked to the way he talked, even more so when he had that annoying smirk on his lips and that look in his eyes that made you feel hot all over. From rage. Most certainly. You never hesitated to let him know just what you thought of him but for some reason that just encouraged him to bother you more. And then Just-a-Snappinâ didnât return from Bremen and you just felt numb. Then â before you even had the time to think about what to feel â he walked into the officers club with Douglass and Croz flanking him, looking far too beautiful for somebody that just escaped death, and you do the only rational thing and flee. Ev finds you maybe half an hour later. You werenât crying anymore but he could see that you did. So of course he makes a joke about how you donât have to cry because he survived and youâre so so furious that he would even joke about such a thing. But when you go to slap him somehow your mind gets mixed up and youâre pulling him into a kiss instead. Everett doesnât even have the courtesy to pretend to be shocked, kissing you back with a passion that sends a hot shiver through your body. When the two of you part itâs to breathe, not fight.Â
⥠â Howard 'Hambone' Hamilton
The two of you had been friendly before the war and although you wanted to take things further nothing happened before he flew out. You wrote letters to each other and he called you his girl but then he went down and the letters stopped for a concerning amount of time. His mother let you know that he was alive but it took weeks for Howard to write to you again. The letter was so short. Heâs been injured. Heâs a POW. He loves you. It takes him many more letters before he confides in you about his facial scar. Howard is so sure that youâd leave him. He wasnât a looker before and he sure as hell isnât now. You ask him to send you a picture just so that you have something to hold onto but he says he canât so you just wait until he comes home. His mother collects you on the way to the train station and you try not to feel hurt that he didnât tell you about his arrival. All that hurt flies out the window the moment you see him get off that train. Howard freezes as you run to him, not moving as you cradle his face between your hands and slowly kiss down his scarred cheek until you can kiss his lips, before he finally wraps his arms around you and holds you close.
⥠â John Brady
Oh your dear John tries to be real proper with it. It took this man three dates before he even worked up the courage to ask if he could hold your hand so it might take him a minute before he tries to kiss you. Itâs not about not wanting because John wants to kiss you â he wants to kiss you so badly â but he also knows that he feels a great deal of affection for you so he doesnât want to rush you into anything. When he does kiss you for the first time itâs entirely unplanned, in a rush of endorphins after he receives some great news. He just couldnât help himself. John cups your face between his hands and presses his lips to yours in one smooth motion. Itâs not gentle and his lips are chapped but you wouldnât want it any other way. John doesnât apologize, only turning a deep shade of red until you pull him in again.
⥠â Ken Lemmons
Ken had only been in love with you forever when he finally worked up the courage to ask you if he could take you out. To say you werenât a little sweet on him too would be a lie so you agreed happily. The date was a lot of fun and so was the one after but you were starting to become a little less happy the more time passed without Ken trying to kiss you. When you ask him why he hasnât kissed you yet he can barely believe it. He tried hard to be a gentleman but he has the biggest grin on his face as he leans in for a kiss and your cheeks almost hurt trying to stop yourself from smiling. His arms wrap around your middle and gently pull you against his chest with all the longing he had been holding back. You can't help it when the butterflies that had been fluttering in your stomach since he picked you up for your date exploded into fireworks.
⥠â Bernard 'Benny' DeMarco
You meet Meatball first, at the little park you like to take your lunch breaks, sharing a piece of your sandwich with him after he charmed you with the sweetest puppy eyes. It wasnât until the third time you gave the dog some of your food that you met his handsome owner. It was easy to sit on a bench with Benny and joke around while you watched Meatball chase a ball or occasional squirrel and over the next few weeks it became the highlight of your day. He never tried to take it further than friends although you couldnât help but fall for the sweet man. It wasnât until one day when you were loving on Meatball a little more to make up for the lack of food (Benny said that he was getting chunky so you switched to packing extra for him instead) that he jokingly asked if he could get a kiss too. It was supposed to be a quick kiss on the cheek but he was so shocked by your âsureâ that he turned to look at you and it landed on his lips instead.
⥠â Charles 'Crank' Cruikshank
Youâre the one that has to kiss him first. Charlie was such a sweet man. The two of you had met on a night out with your respective friends and then spent the whole night just sitting and talking until your friends rudely decided to drag you home. You mourned the missed connection so when you saw him again the next time you went out you immediately went up to him again. Your second night played out similar to the first, a few dances squeezed in but other than that you sat and talked. When the evening came to an end Charles did the gentlemanly thing and asked if he could walk you home to make sure youâre safe. Not that he expected anything, even if he felt the same sparks between you that you did. Heâd hope for maybe your address to write to you, maybe even a number he could reach you under. What he doesnât expect is for you to kiss him right there on your doorstep. You have him flustered enough that he almost forgets to ask for your details. Almost.
⥠â Jack Kidd
The first time you and Jack kiss each other is almost feral. This thing between the two of you had been building for a good while but neither of you really took the time to define what exactly was going on. So itâs been months of dancing around each other when you catch glimpses in hallways. Nights dancing with each other at the officers club. Long talks and secretly holding hands but nothing more. Still youâd like to think that you have some sort of influence on him. So when Jack locks himself away in his office for days on end and you come in to plainly order him to take a break â he breaks. Heâs got you pressed against his office wall before either of you have a second to think. Itâs hot and desperate, almost mauling each other, hands all over before Jack remembers his manners and pulls away. What follows are several awkward days where he hides from you while you attempt to figure out how to ask him to do that again.

In episode three of Masters of the Air, we see that Crosby, Douglass, and Blakely are just as surprised to see theyâre going to Africa as all of the other flyboys. In reality, the officers of Just-a-Snappinâ were well aware of their destination.
In early August, two lead crews were chosen from each group and brought to 3rd Air Division Headquarters where they were briefed by Curtis LeMay on what would later be called the âdouble-strike mission.â They, along with their commanding officer, would be given details so that the lead crews could train and prepare themselves ahead of time.
LeMay: "It's a hard target. Bombardiers and navigators will come [to Elveden Hall] every other day and be briefed for the route and target. It's a dangeous mission, especially for you lead crews. Tomorrow two new planes will arrive at your base, and you get them. No one but your line crews is even to touch them. Certainly no one is to fly them. ⌠This is top secret. Nine people in each group know about it, and no one else. We're redundant on this. We're training two crews for the lead. We will select the one to go on the day of the mission. Pilots will go up every day to simulate as much of the mission as we can. When you aren't here for training, you will all be in the air. When we call the mission, we want you to be ready."
It was Jack Kidd who was picked by higher bomber command to lead the 100th BG on the inevitable mission instead of their commanding officer. Unlike the CO of every other group involved, Colonel Harding was kept in the dark, which Crosby believed was due to him (and the 100th) falling into disfavor due to poor results and their negative reputation.
âNo one else knew about our forays and only Jack Kidd and Swartout's crew knew why we weren't flying missions. Major Egan, our Squadron C.O., was told he was not to question us, and Flying Control was told they were to clear any flight plan we requested. Everyone was told to stay away from our plane. We could tell that Egan was steaming, but he never said anything.â
