Jack DeJohnette, a drummer whose command and versatility made him one of the standout jazz instrumentalists of the past five decades and an indispensable figure in era-defining bands like Charles Lloyd’s mid-1960s quartet, Miles Davis’s electrified group of the late 1960s and early ’70s, and Keith Jarrett’s long-running acoustic trio, died on Sunday in Kingston, N.Y. He was 83.

Jack DeJohnette
Jack DeJohnette, of the most daring and singular jazz drummers of the last 60 years, died on Sunday.
Musician and composer Jack DeJohnette has died, age 83.
His credentials and recording sessions too lengthy to list, he was widely recognized, along with Tony Williams, whom he replaced as drummer for Miles Davis, as one of the greatest jazz drummers of the post-war era.
I first heard him in the Bitches Brew-era band, so I'll share a link to his work then, but seek out his work with others, including his recordings with Charles Lloyd and his ECM work.
