"Why are your prices so high?" I have a BFA in Illustration that I spent 7 years getting, but I basically quit art wholesale for six years after graduation due to extreme burnout. The prices are me trying to account for years of experience but also for being way too out of practice.

"What's the turnaround time?" Expect about a week or two at longest assuming nothing crazier goes down in my life than what's already happening. I am very communicative so if there's some kind of catastrophic delay I will let you know. That said please keep in mind that I am currently cursed by some kind of outer god, and my situation may improve or worsen drastically at the drop of a hat.

Copying what I just posted in Disc Hoard because I saw this and it motivated me to actually put to words something we’ve been thinking about for a while now. Sorry in advance to any William enjoyers I am not trying to attack your man for no reason ilu.

As a guy who has played both of these routes: A big huge issue I had with Will’s route is that he kinda just doesn’t have much in the way of his own motivations because his whole Thing is Doing Whatever You, The MC, Wants. And drawing out your own hidden desires or whatever. Yeah he has Crown to worry about but on the day-to-day he kind of comes across as your skyrim wife who follows you around and just holds your stuff for you. He has the power to command people to do what he wants but he values people’s individual freedoms above all, which could have been more interesting as a concept if it was written better. There’s potential for conflict there, but it isn’t really explored in a way that matters imo. As a conversational partner I feel like I would wring his neck bc even his own singular motivation, protecting others’ freedoms, is really just. Nothingburger. In the way it’s handled in the story. The MC spends a good portion of time asking him what he wants and he just reflects the question back. I came here to date this dude and he’s acting like he’s playing coy or something but he really is just Giving Us Nothing most of the time. The amount of information you get towards the end of his route, in my opinion, is very underwhelming compared to all the buildup there is. His motivations are just not complex enough for all that!

Ooooihh he has to go against his own morals to use his power and he does it all the time ooiuuuuhhh hes so Hashtag Tortured except he’s so terminally Beautiful that there’s never really a moment where he Breaks or Loses It over this or anything so it doesn’t really feel like much in the story at all. William is a babygirl sure but genuinely he is a little bit nothingburger. He kills people or whatever but there’s never any WEIGHT or GRAVITY to it despite the story having building blocks for creating that weight.

IN CONTRAST Gilbert’s route is the best written thing in Ikepri that I’ve seen so far (and admittedly I haven’t played many of the routes and generally feel like Ikevil is handled more poorly overall but bear with me here) BECAUSE he’s a fucking asshole to the MC. He genuinely is kind of abusive and manipulative and has this whole complex about Being A Villain when he never wanted to be that to begin with! He hates authority! He hates that he’s the Emperor of Obsidian!! He fucking hates it!!! He wants nothing more than for everyone around him to hate his ass so deeply that nobody misses him when he inevitably dies of his terminal illness or when some fucker assassinates him or something.

On the flip side, because He Is This Way, he has Vastly improved the country, the people’s living conditions, Obsidian’s relations with a lot of other countries, etc. Because unlike his father, he isn’t just Killing People To Make His Dick Look Bigger. If he wants to set the world up for a more democratic future without monarchies he has to make sure to the best of his ability that shit won’t just Collapse back into a monarchy, and he genuinely cares about improving things for his people as a whole. He wants them to be able to function without him, and they still look to him as the authority figure and he HAAATES IT. It’s compelling!

He’s also a genuine stalker!! The reason Rhodolite exists at the start of the story is because he didn’t conquer the damn place BECAUSE THE MC LIVES THERE. He is Insane, but he has Motivations and Reasons for doing the things he does and Backstory to back it up and when he does shit there’s the foundation to back it up, the story doesn’t just lean on how poor tortured babygirl he is for doing whatever the fuck.

He’s cold, calculating, flip-flops between treating the MC kinda well and really quite badly either because he doesn’t want them to get too attached or because his view of the world is so warped by all the shit he’s done that his moral compass is more than a little bit fucked! I could tangent into how Being A Beast Prince plays into this but that’s a whole other sorta more personal can of worms that we have to crack open at a separate time because that ain’t what this is about. This is about the writers saying “play Will’s route if you enjoyed Gilbert’s” when that really is not a good recommendation like at all.

Like I’ve talked to a few people who were, understandably, GENUINELY UNCOMFORTABLE playing through much of Gilbert’s route, AND SO WAS I, and I feel like that’s how it should be for that specific character. The whole POINT of Gilbert von Obsidian is to have a compelling villain prince who kinda fucks the MC up! He’s written to be a Kind Of Fucked Up Little Dude and honestly it’s handled pretty well! His route SHOULD make you uncomfortable! That’s kind of why he works so well and part of why he’s so damn popular I think, because he also STANDS OUT AMONGST THE CROWD of other princes who DON’T treat the MC like total garbage!

Disclaimer here that the other princes are by no means Saints and they’re all Beasts that’s the whole Deal but they all have certain Limits and Gilbert as a character tends to Break those established limits.
