          And she had told herself she’d wear more comfortable shoes and a dress she couldn’t fall out of if there was another party. Yeah, not so much. But this time she had a date. “No messy bun and apron this time,” she softly teased the vampire, “And you definitely still have some high society left in you.” Yeah, he was hot. And he was her date? Friend-date? Jesus Christ. Where was Calypso when you needed her?

          She almost felt bad for wanting to keep her distance from Remi. The vampire was import to Maddox and she wanted to get to know her because of that. Even if it wasn’t Remi’s fault, she couldn’t help the slight unease that came from not being able to shake how it felt when she bit her. On top of that, there was the banshee of it all. Lyra heard them out but it was Remi who killed Maddox’s friend. Ivy just wasn’t so sure who she was actually safe around right now, with the exception of her brother. So when she saw the blonde walking by the park where she sat, she looked down and just hoped her mind was making things out to be worse than they were.

          “You’re not stalking me, are you?” she said as she came up to his booth. Waitressing was just a side thing until she was able to actually get a paid position in her chosen career. Aspen was a surprise friend, just a vampire who looked like he could use a friendly face when she first saw him. “At least you’re sitting down this time, won’t have to worry about breaking my neck to look up at you,” her hands slid behind her to untie the apron around her waist now that she was done her shift.

In the couple weeks she had been hotel hopping, Ivy had been able to score herself a job as a waitress and was starting to figure out if she could even afford a place to live. She couldn’t explain it but she felt like she had to be here and now her ex-coven probably thought she was going off the rails just like they say her brother did. She sat a table outside a coffee shop, trying to do the math on her phone. “Yeah,” she leaned back in her chair, running a hand through her hair, “My savings were not prepared for this.”

          “That’s it, I give up,” she set her tablet down on the table let out a deep sigh. How was it there were no internships available right now? She clicked off the screen and slid it into her bag, “I need a drink.”

          “Oh hey, it’s you,” she said, kind of grateful she found a friendly face while she was out. She went out alone most of the time, considering her only friend couldn’t even leave the apartment. “Bishop, right?” she said, giving the .... werewolf a smile, “At least I didn’t body slam into you this time.” He wasn’t a werewolf the first time she met him, was he?

          Was she a little nervous to have her long, lost brother over? Absolutely. But she was trying to treat this like she was just getting to know a new friend, at least until they were both ready to really talk about everything. Which, she wasn’t so sure she was. “Come on in,” she opened the door and waved him in, “It’s still kind of mess but I did already get the kitchen shit put away so ... want anything to drink?”
