Don’t get me wrong, do what you’ve gotta do to cope.  But it all just makes my heart break for the baby me who lived in this space and figured everyone was just as sad, and it took me a long time to realize that there was more than giving my heart to undeserving, average boys and constantly caving to melancholy.

I overheard a news discussion about masks in schools and parent choice the other day and it was blatantly obvious there is a misunderstanding about the nature and purpose of wearing a mask. It’s similar to the misunderstanding Jesus pointed out to the Pharisees about ceremonial cleanliness. The Pharisees worried about what they ate and touched, what happened TO them; Jesus called them out for what came out of their hearts and mouths, what they DID. Wearing a mask isn’t about what could happen to you but because of you. Masks measures protect others from your germs. It’s not for personal safety but public safety. Sure, we each have a right to choose the risks we take (I for one never intend to jump from a perfectly functioning airplane, but my husband has skydiving on his bucket list). But we don’t get to choose what risks others take. Since masks are a measure to mitigate the consequences of your perhaps imperceptible contaminants, TO NOT WEAR A MASK PUT NOT YOU BUT OTHERS AT RISK.
