I know I said this before, but honestly I really, really appreciate it. theyre never going to confirm gender stuff beyond presenting because RVB IS about headcanons. Anyone can believe anything about what a character is like under the armor (unless its like white tucker or something dumb) and they can all be right

Oh nooo!!

It’s a show I loveeeee to hate. It is a cesspool of misogyny and racism and closeted homophobia (often not so closeted) bUT at the core of that was in the original series ( and quite a few well written individual episodes from people like Sera Gamble and Ben Edlund) had really interesting mythology and paranormal based plot arcs ( supernatural/paranormal based is a genre I really fucking love but also a genre filled with rampant misogyny/racism/homophobia to my constant dismay). I also really enjoyed their renditions/interpretations of demon, angel, hell based theology - in specific their Lucifer was pretty great, same goes for early season Crowley.  The only reason I’m still watching tbh is because of Dean - not because ‘ooOoo conventionally hot white cis male protag’ but because I’m really interested in the psychology built upon that character - childhood trauma, PTSD, abandonment issues, military based indoctrinated childhood - child soldier mentality, care taking role as a child himself of a younger sibling, psychological/physical abuse - both from a parental figure as a child and later others as an adult, alcoholism, drug abuse, 40 years of torture in hell, ramifications of then torturing others, borderline obsessive codependency issues, self-neglect, trust issues, self-hatred, the burden of constantly brutally killing things for a living from a young age, heightened beyond years responsibility as a child, food based coping mechanisms ( junk food as emotional substitute) , insomnia, waking hallucinations, inability to form lasting relationships out side of co-dependency ( mostly sex based - sex only relationships, one night stands as substitute for emotional connection - that way no pain or fear of abandonment/rejection) , machismo bravado to hide insecurities about own sexual identification ( heavily suggested - and in my opinion definitely- that Dean is bi ) I COULD GO ON AND ON - if Dean was a ‘real’ person he’d have literally become comatose by now because of the unending list of traumas he’s enduredbut yeah this is the only real reason I’m still watching the shit show that is SPN because of Dean’s character ( who lately through bad writing choices has been written as considerably more misogynistic than i’d like through the constant need of the dude bro lead writing team to unnecessarily maim, torture and kill almost every female character by getting Dean’s character to do their dirty work and feed their multiple torture porn fantasies - of course not taking into account that the majority audience of SPN is female viewers, thus telling them that all they are good for is a main pain plot point or a torture porn footnote ( and showing that it’s a-ok to kill women with 0 consequences for your heroic male status). 

On another note the only other real character that I enjoy on the show is Castiel ( although yet again the writing has fucked up his character progression in recent seasons- and SIDE NOTE I fucking liked Bela and Jody and Charlie and pretty much all the female characters but I only get to see them once a season or never again cause they've been permanently fridged mostly) because of a certain Spock like quality I think. Same sense of a immensely wise being with greater strength and power than humans - separate from us and yet also very much us at the same time. His relationships with Dean has been essentially built ( if Cas was a girl they’d have been bangin’ in season 4 *see Anna essentially*) and written whether intentionally or not ( a topic which is always up for much debate) as a romantic love plot - I don’t make the rules, I’ve just studied film and I know what classic love tropes look like when I see them - Person A saving person B ( be it from themselves, addiction, others, or in this case hell) from something, Person A being forced to choose between something important to them ( their family, their allegiance - In this case Cas’s family and heaven) and person B - that scenario flipped the other way, Person A  sacrificing themselves for Person B or the other way around ( happens repeatedly) Person A overcoming amnesia and remembering person B ( see *Search for Spock, * The Notebook ffs) Person A leaving so that person B can be ‘happy’ or to ‘protect’ person B ( yooO all of season 8 in purgatory) So yeah so so many romantic trope uses with these two characters to the point where it’s fucking ridiculous, but the problem is this is the CW who’s tagline is essentially ‘NO HOMO’ ( same goes for a certain emotionally repressed texan lead actor *cough fucking cough* who’s quick to label anything supposedly ‘gay’ as ‘unmanly’ ) which doesn’t really lend it’s self to canonical representation of the natural course this relationship should be taking ( LITERALLY JUST IN THE WRITING - ””’buddies”””  just doesn’t fucking cut it, like literally don’t write in romantic tropes between two dudes if you have no intention of acknowledging the beyond friends nature of their relationship. So yeah at best stupid stupid stupid writing blind writing and at worst conscious queerbaiting and abuse of trust of fans who stupidly might have thought that they could see canonical representation of a built up queer relationships between two characters.
