As hopeful as things seem right now, this race is still - unbelievably - very close. Many people are very concerned about what the future will be like, what kind of rights they will still have in the very near future. It is a fear and concern that seemed unfathomable in our country. Yet here we are, fighting for the basic rights guaranteed to us in the Constitution.

And there are people out there who want to make us feel guilt for voting to save ourselves.

I have lived my entire life in this country, so do you have any idea what a mindfuck it is for me to try to figure out the logistics of a 2nd citizenship? And I am one of the privileged few who has the option. But I am reluctant to take it because it means leaving behind friends I consider family who do not have the option and will be stuck here. I am reluctant to go through the process because of the people in my community, many who I don’t even know, who will have to continue living in a place that will not help them.

It is valid to want better for others outside of your country when they suffer so much. When the entire global world is fair and just, we all benefit. But how do you scream and yell for freedom of other people when your own people - your friends, your neighbors, even your own family - are suffering?
