Northern Ireland in the 1970s, the Troubles, Anna Burn’s book, Milkman is delivered in an uncanny narrative that is at once dreamlike but impending violence pulls in an undertow. These are the rhythms of Burns’s mind. Her writing is challenging, perhaps experimental, but I also found so much humor against the tension erupting around her. Good read! What brought an extra dimension to the story was simultaneously diving through the overarching, Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe. This brilliant narrative nonfiction story of Jean McConvilleon, 1970’s Northern Ireland, and the IRA addresses the political, economic, and legal issues Ireland struggled with for independence.
