Iolite is one of the most pleochrolic stones available on the market. For those not familiar with pleochroism, the wiki definition defines it as: an optical phenomenon in which a substance has different colors when observed at different angles, especially with polarized light. Though it is much more easily seen in a gemstone or thinner slice of Iolite this phenomenon still exists on thick stones if light were able to get through them. With Iolite, you will see blueish purpled in one direction and brownish yellows in another. Iolite is also known to have Sunstone growing with it in many cases.
