from Green Fields of France bc quite frankly that song makes me so sad and that line in particular just OOH BOY, actually the entire thing is really poetic and nice and makes me emotional

The TARDIS landed, of all places, in Gramercy Park.

And the boy with the blue hoodie and the messy, spiky hair, and the spectacles was waiting for them– even though you weren’t supposed to be able to get into Gramercy Park without a key, somehow he’d gotten over the wall.

The Doctor stepped out, and grinned at him, and gestured to Sally. “Sally, this is that friend I was telling you about–”

“Yeah, hey, Doc,” the young man shook his head, “I’ve met her before, remember, the thing with The Knell? She had that DVD.” He shifted his expressive gaze to Sally. “Hey again, you’ve changed your hair, you look nice.”

“No, erm,” The Doctor hesitated, “that wasn’t this one. Multiversal, erm, bleed effect.”

The white-haired old man came to the door and– instantly turned pale, looking at The Doctor, then at the tiny blonde beauty beside him, then at The Doctor again– “Doctor! It’s dangerous, you bein’ ‘ere! She’s out with Shaun at the mo’, but goodness knows when she’ll be back, eh? Are– are you all right? The last time I saw you was– you said it was starting–”

The Doctor smiled wearily, touched him gently on the shoulder. “It’s all right, Wilf. Don’t worry about that now. I wanted– I wanted you to meet my friend. Wilfred Mott, this is Claire Bennet. Claire, this is Wilf.”

He staggered in through the doors of The Victorian, looking stricken, pale, dark eyes wide as saucers–

“Finley! Fin! Please– please help me! It’s– it’s my daughter–”

A redhaired woman lay draped in his arms, bleeding from her stomach, paler far even than The Doctor was, her blue-green coat hanging ‘round her in tatters.

“She got caught by a Hornet’s Nest– it’s this– 47th Century Sontaran shrapnel grenade– aiming for me– think it was laced with something to prevent regeneration– I dunno how Gallifreyan she is, I don’t know if human medicine would kill her–”

She was tall, that might be the first thing people noticed about her, maybe taller than The Doctor– though of course she was wearing heels, that might fudge the numbers a bit–

–the second thing was that she was beautiful, elegant and raven-haired and alabaster, and powerfully built, as though Xena and Snow White had somehow had a daughter together–

She wore vestments of red and blue, spangled with white stars, and a tiara of gold– and she wore a smile as breathtakingly bright as the second sun rising in the south.

“Doctor,” she beamed, gazing at Rose, “is this her? She’s lovely, you didn’t tell me she was lovely.”

“Peace conference could be going better,” The Doctor mumbled to Romana. “I wish The Face of Boe was here, he always–”

Then came tromping by great armored fellow, almost too tall to be human, clad in a military green exoskeletal power armor with an implacable bronze faceplate– The Doctor blinked as he glanced up and saw him, grinned! 

“John! John, there’s someone here I need you to meet,” he gestured happily. “This is Romana, this is the one I told you about.”

As John turned to look at the two Gallifreyans with surprising grace for one so bulky, he nodded to her. “Madam President. I’ve heard good things.”
