38. reunited/‘i haven’t see you in a while.’
i’m actually really excited for this one!! :D thanks for asking.
i think it’s worth noting that my version of dbh stretches out over a longer period of time + has a slightly altered plot. i’m not going to go in depth here, but in case something seems confusing, just remember that this isn’t 100% canon-compliant :)
Her voice was the sweetest thing Nova had ever heard.
It reminded her of silver bells and piano notes; sweet sounds played so tenderly, to be perceived by her ears alone.
“It has,” the android replied. An adoring smile spreading across her face, her yellow LED spinning to blue.
Amanda stared back at her with warm, brown eyes. She didn’t move, nor did she say much, but Nova could tell she was exicted. She was notorious for being cold and straight-faced, but the way she fought to hold back a smile made the android’s heart flutter.
There was a brief pause. The pair stood on opposite sides of the platform, too nervous to close the distance. Both were overwhelmed with thoughts and feelings; two things that androids weren’t supposed to experience, but did.
Amanda was a special case. Her AI was meant to replicate Elijah Kamski’s mentor, but it didn’t work out. Even she deviated, developing her own separate personality that was wicked in its own right, but far sweeter than the facade she’d hid behind.
Nova liked this new personality a lot.
“Come closer,” Amanda said at last, speaking in that slow, elegant voice that filled Nova with joy.
The android closed the distance in several long strides. Surprisingly, Amanda moved too, walking right into the other’s waiting arms.
Nova’s LED flickered yellow. The affection, while welcome, was challenging to embrace. This didn’t feel real. It wasn’t real - but neither was she. Her and Amanda were both machines, but they were machines with feelings. Machines filled with love.
And as hard as it was to accept, Amanda loved her.
They embraced for an aubsurd amount of time, both of them far too stubborn to be the first to let go.
Nova smoothed the fabric of Amanda’s shawl, analyzing it’s texture as she soaked up the ambiance. Birds chirping, water splashing against the rocks, the faint smell of roses drifting in the breeze... it all made her feel so calm. It was a shame she ever had to leave this place.
After what seemed like ages, Amanda finally pulled away. Her hands slid down to the taller woman’s waist, and Nova smiled at her. Their was another pause, one caused by anxiety and hesitation, but this time, unlike times before, Amanda was the one to break it.
She grabbed ahold of Nova’s collar and yanked her down. The gesture was aggressive and completely out of left field. The android was stunned, unsure of what to expect - but what came of it was more shocking than anything her mind conjured up.
With her free hand, Amanda cupped Nova’s cheek, stroking smooth, synthetic skin with her thumb. She then closed her eyes, leaned in, and pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead.
Amanda released Nova and she stumbled back, nearly losing her footing as the other chuckled gleefully.
The sound was even more beautiful than her voice.
It was an emotion that Nova couldn’t describe; a sense of panic intertwined with love and desire. Her mechanical heart was practically beating out of her chest, and Amanda kept smiling.
“Why don’t we take a small ride?” She asked, gesturing towards a small wooden boat, anchored to the platform. “We have much to discuss.”
Much to discuss indeed, she thought. But none of it would be about what had just transpired. Amanda refused to discuss or acknowledge any displays of affection, and Nova was just fine with that. As long as they occurred, they didn’t have to discuss anything.
Truth be told, they were both just as clueless. They were experienced in their respective crafts, but not in love. Amanda was frightened of her slow deviation process, which was understandable, but she knew that she wasn’t alone. Even in the midst of a revolution, the pair managed to make time for each other. Make time to learn. To love.
So, the android answered without hesitation. “That sounds wonderful.”
