i did 3.02 miles yesterday (half of it walking because i decided to go run when it was 100° outside) and another 3.02 today with speed work
first 5 minutes was warm up, then 3x1min at mile pace, 3x2min at 5k pace, 2x1 at mile, 2x2 at 5k, finally 1x1 at mile and 1x2 at 5k. intervals were tracked by Nike Run Club and don’t include the recovery periods where i walked (which Garmin did track). thank goodness for my compression socks.
streak: 2 days/6.04mi
Went for this intervals/ HIIT run in the dark - fast intervals so I was supposed to walk in between so the mile times don’t really make sense- it was like 60 degrees out and I had two headlamp/ flashlights lmao
The face of someone who just went through one of the most difficult cardio workouts of her life 🤣 Who needs running when you've got 30 second intervals with very little rest in between? XD
The graph very clearly shows the workout design. Four sets of four different exercises, three circuits. Here's the entire routine (with video links for demonstration):
Circuit #1 Squat Skiers: 30 seconds Half Burpee with Push up: 30 seconds Diagonal Skater Hops to High Knees: 30 seconds Donkey Kick Sit Thru: 30 seconds (30 seconds rest then repeat 3 more times)
- 90 seconds rest -
Circuit #2 Squat Jump Bulldog: 30 seconds Climber Jacks: 30 seconds Line Twists: 30 seconds Dancing Crab: 30 seconds (30 seconds rest then repeat 3 more times)
- 90 seconds rest -
Circuit #3 Lunge Burpees: 30 seconds Inchworm Mountain Climbers (no push up): 30 seconds Squat Twists: 30 seconds Bulldog Side to Side Hops: 30 seconds (30 seconds rest then repeat 3 more times)
Believe it or not I actually have favourite moves. I looove doing those squat jump bulldogs, mostly because I know my jump height has improved drastically. I love doing those donkey sit thrus because I love being able to twist my body like that, even though I have fallen on my side when the exhaustion becomes too much haha. I especially love doing those dancing crabs because they enable me to rest enough in between rounds LOL.
I have a huge love-hate relationship with those squat skiers, squat twists and bulldog side to side hops. My quads burn so much whenever I do them, especially when my energy reserves are at, like, 20% I always have to stop for a few seconds just to shake off the burning sensation ._.
So, yeah. Here's a good representation of what my cardio day is like. I still do runs, don't get me wrong, but they're not my go-to cardio exercise anymore. I much prefer doing interval work because they enable me to do all sorts of movements. o/
New research supports what many runners do naturally, instead of the conventional wisdom that you should stay upright.
I found this very interesting, having been advised to use the upright position. Your body knows! It is also interesting to see who was studied. Hint, not the people in the pictures.

lol just found this picture from forever ago when i was studying for my orchestra final! fun fact i never have to take that final again because at my school second semester seniors get exempt from taking finals if they have an A in the class
xo- gg
My new running shoes arrived today! And then it poured down so intense that I had to find shelter. Good thing they fit nicely and I don’t have to return them.
They made interval training fun, even in the rain.
Did 10 min wu
2*6m tempo + 1m rest
11 min cool down
Did this very tough intervals run with 3 min and 2 min intervals - a lot of them! This was very tiring lol. Long week ….!!!
