It was wonderful to interview @vapolis for Remember, You Will Die -- a nail-biting sci-fi that will keep you wanting more! If you want to play a mercenary about to lose their head because of one mistake and one very pissed off boss, this is the IF for you!
We hope you enjoy reading this interview as much as we did!
You can find the list of sci-fi winners here.
About the author
I’m currently at the end of my degree so making time for writing has been a nice reprieve. Writing has always been an outlet for me and I’ve actually (like many I assume) started writing fanfic in my native language before switching completely to English. At some point during the pandemic I was craving something different and started with some original work before finally landing on RYWD.
The game in one sentence
Everything that can go wrong, usually goes wrong.
Tell us about your current focus in IF and more about your journey into interactive fiction.
I’m working on the third chapter to my secondary WIP right now but outside of that I’ve begun plotting chapter 008 of RYWD. The plot is picking up speed right now and I’m really excited to continue with the stakes as high as they are.
I’ve been in the IF community for over a decade by now! Most of that time I’ve spent being an avid reader of IFs and during the pandemic I took the plunge and started to write my first IF and a little over two years ago, I started a second one going into an entirely different direction which has been exciting to explore.Â
What was the inspiration for RYWD and what made you want to write a story in the sci-fi genre?
I cite altered carbon and games like cyberpunk2077 or nobody wants to die as inspiration when asked. I’ve always been interested in the cyberpunk aesthetic and more gritty works where you can explore darker themes and a city as vibrant as Vapolis turned out to be. Funnily enough, sci-fi has never been a genre I gravitated towards when reading books except for a couple outliers but when I first got the idea for this IF it only made sense to me to go a sci-fi track with it due to it playing in future times and the tech aspect being a major theme.
What does your writing process look like?
I have a classic case of one vague scene, a setting and vibe whenever I start a new work and then I agonize about how to reach that specific scene and build an entire outline around it. Probably not the best process but characters come quickly to me then and a new routine that has allowed me to write a lot very quickly lately is to write in 20 minute sprints! I’ve been doing it for about a month and write more in a day now than I did some weeks. I’d really recommend the app Ellipsus for that since you can enable a focus mode that eliminates distractions in the interface and it has helped me massively.Â
What's one thing you're really proud of that you have written so far? Do you have a favourite character or scene you've written?
My favorite character to write is the MC of RYWD. I am personally a big fan of mc’s with semi-set or set backstories because i feel like you can dive deeper into the psyche of them that way and mc is a trauma riddled individual that has always been one move away from snapping entirely and I always enjoy any scene where mc is in total focus. In my most recent chapter that is the case and it has really allowed me to go into their fears and thoughts and to double down on things I only mentioned in passing before.
For folks who enjoyed your IF, what other book/music/movie should they check out with the same 'vibe'?
Definitely altered carbon! It’s a book series and incredibly exciting. For people that don’t have the patience to dive deep with the books, there’s also a netflix adaptation and I really enjoy that as well for the action and the vibe of the city depicted in season 1.
What're you excited to work on next?
A romance route soft lock. I’ve always been a big fan of more established dynamics in relationships, especially romances, and this will allow me to go a lot deeper and focus more on the dynamic between mc and their chosen RO.Â
Fun with the sci-fi genre
Personal fave sci-fi profession/race: Mercenary!
Personal fave sci-fi setting: Cities isolated from the rest of the world.Â
If you were transported into the setting above, as the profession/race you selected, what would your life look like: I don’t think I’d last long as a merc in a ruthless city but I think it would be incredibly exciting to take on so many different jobs and navigate the underbelly of a city.Â
Hello, I'm trying to find IF: i remember the story is about how MC, who's a cook at the family restaurant, dies and is now a ghost and they have been hiding their queer identity from their middle eastern family, and their sibling reveals that at their funeral. There were a couple of ROs, one of them is a best friend, another was a ghost too, I think.
Crowdsourcing for recs since I found a lot of chef IFs but couldn't find any with a middle Eastern cast :(
Inner thoughts that each of the RO's try to bury from themselves.
Wow did u even kiss the brick before throwing it
On a serious note, I have a world-or-MC type of question.
If sacrifing MC (the individual they came to know, as in they would never see them again) would grant them their deepest desire, like the ones you mentioned, would they do it?
Ooooo! That's such an interesting question. I'm not sure I actually know. Especially at this point when the relationships are more established. I'm not sure any of them would sacrifice the MC to bring back something they never had to begin with. But, I think it would also be a heartbreaking decision that would most likely shape who they are in the future. I think there would be a major guilt complex that came with that. Then again, it might also be healing in a way? Sort of letting go of a dream and putting their hands in Fate (which Milo hates).
I think that is a situation that is so sticky and heartbreaking and I think the MC would also want to have a say in it as well.
Bring More Energy to Your Houston Event With Interactive Games
Interactive games bring a different level of energy to any event. Whether it’s a school festival, a church gathering, or a backyard party, people enjoy activities that get them moving. These games help break the ice, keep guests entertained, and turn a simple event into something memorable. But choosing the right one can feel confusing if you’ve never rented before. This guide keeps things easy and helps you understand what interactive of rent in Houston fit your guests and your space.
Pick Games That Fit Your Guests
Imagine planning an outdoor company event where kids and adults will be present. You want something fun but also something everyone can participate in. That’s when searching for Interactive Game rentals near me usually comes to mind. Different games bring different moods. Some are competitive, like sports challenges and obstacle courses. Others are light-hearted and work for all ages.
Think about your crowd. Teens love high-energy activities, while younger kids need softer play. Adults usually enjoy games that are active but not too intense. Choosing a game that matches your audience helps avoid long lines, waiting, or equipment going unused because it feels too advanced.
Plan Your Space Before Renting
Interactive games need the right amount of room to be safe and enjoyable. Check the ground to make sure it’s level. Leave space around the edges so people can move comfortably. Some games require power, so think about outlet locations or ask the rental company about extension options.
When comparing Houston options, you’ll see a variety of Interactive for Rent Houston units, each with its own space and power needs. Planning this early avoids last-minute changes.
Step-by-Step: How to Book the Best Interactive Game
Identify the age group and number of players.
Measure your setup area.
Ask about power needs and available outlets.
Request actual photos of the game you will receive.
Confirm setup and takedown times.
Get a full price quote with delivery and taxes.
These steps make the process simple and predictable.
Safety Tips for a Smooth Experience
Even the most fun games need clear supervision. Keep all cords taped down or covered so nobody trips. Have an adult monitor the activity so that play stays controlled. If the game uses blowers, make sure they are placed safely away from walkways. Small checks like these keep the event safe for kids and adults without interrupting the fun.
Conclusion
Interactive games for Rent in Houston bring excitement and help guests feel involved. With a bit of planning and clear communication with the rental company, the experience stays smooth from start to finish.

Okay, i gotta just say it. I been denying it for a WHILE..
We are on an official hiatus. I am SORRY!! I know how it feels when an author goes on hiatus or drops off the earth, and i am sorry to have been like that. Between a mix of chaos in my life, and just struggling to continue what i have on this IF, i have decided it would be more fair to announce an official hiatus. I am NOT, i repeat, i am NOT giving up on this if, i will swear on that. But i will be taking a step back to try and figure out how to get this if rolling again instead of staring at the twinery like a moth to a flame.
I again apologize, for how inactive and unreliable i have been, i will try to do better. This IF means a lot to me, even if my lack of content says the opposite. I WILL do better.
Until then, please forgive me, i wish you all the best. May we see one another soon, with actual content for Stable Minds.
Blending Fun and Data: How Digital Games Provide Valuable Insights for Brands
In today’s fast-moving digital landscape, brands are constantly seeking new ways to connect with audiences while also gathering meaningful data. One of the most effective strategies lies in the use of digital games. These experiences not only entertain but also generate actionable insights into consumer behaviour. When designed as immersive games, they capture attention and encourage longer engagement, providing brands with valuable information that can shape future campaigns.
The Rise of Gamified Engagement
The popularity of digital games has skyrocketed, extending far beyond the world of entertainment. For brands, integrating interactive games into marketing strategies has become a way to engage audiences in a fun yet measurable manner. Each click, movement, or choice within these platforms reflects consumer interests and preferences. Whether through touch screen games at live activations or motion games that encourage physical participation, brands now have the opportunity to gather real-time feedback while creating memorable moments.
Immersive Games as a Branding Tool
Immersive games excel at pulling players into engaging worlds that blend storytelling with interactivity. For brands, this immersion offers more than just surface-level exposure—it cultivates emotional connections. When consumers engage deeply in a narrative or challenge, they are more likely to associate positive experiences with the brand behind it. Moreover, the interactive nature of these experiences makes data collection seamless. The way participants navigate digital games or respond within motion games reveals patterns that go beyond what traditional surveys capture.
The Power of Interactive Play
A major advantage of interactive games is their versatility. They can be adapted for product launches, hybrid events, trade shows, or virtual campaigns. With touch screen games, for example, consumers can explore product features, unlock rewards, or compete against peers, all while brands monitor responses. Meanwhile, motion games add a physical dimension that breaks the monotony of standard engagement tools, encouraging movement that generates excitement and higher participation rates. These fun, data-driven activities make audiences feel more connected and invested.
Data-Driven Marketing Through Play
What sets digital games apart is their ability to collect data unobtrusively. Every decision a player makes in immersive games—whether choosing a path, completing a challenge, or sharing results—provides insights into preferences and behaviours. These insights help brands refine their messaging, identify target demographics, and adjust strategies in real time. In the case of touch screen games and interactive games, responses can be tracked to reveal which elements resonate most. Similarly, motion games generate participation metrics that highlight audience energy and involvement.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Gamified Insights
As the demand for engagement grows, brands will continue to invest in digital games that balance fun with functionality. Whether through highly detailed immersive games or versatile interactive games, the future of marketing lies in experiences that both entertain and inform. By blending creativity with analytics, these tools transform brand activations into data-rich opportunities. With the continued rise of touch screen games and motion games, the possibilities for insight-driven engagement will only expand. For businesses eager to harness the power of gamified experiences, Waveplay Interactive offers innovative solutions that combine creativity, interactivity, and data-driven insights.
