Kay, like always had come over to Dan's bar after work, changing out of his dress clothes into a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and a flannel tied around his waist. The baseball cap was shoved onto his hair as an afterthought, probably Dan's because it hadn't been from Kay's bag.
There was no need for an apron behind the bar. Kay didn't bother with them most of the time, but also because he wasn't a messy mixologist. He actually knew how to put the liquor in the glasses and not on the floor.
Things were going well, he'd fulfilled a number of drink orders by the time Dan had come back to the front. A group of men came in shortly thereafter, loud and obnoxious, claiming a corner section of the bar. "Be right with yah," Kay calls over his shoulder, moving down the bar to slide a pair of women their drinks. His leg was bothering him a bit, he was limping more than normal, but they didn't say anything, just gave him a smile and their thanks.
"We don't want no fuckin' gi.mp takin' our drinks. Where are the bitches at?"
Kay stops, shoulders drawing tight and teeth gritted, but says nothing. Instead, he finishes delivering drinks, chats with the women a bit, then moves on.
